Wow, this is nuts! He had a huge influence in the sport despite not going pro. He was still in his prime when I first started lifting in the late 80's and early 90's as a youngster.

I remember reading that he had various health problems back when he was coming up. I know he had a really bad car accident and went sailing through the windshield.
