New Music Sucks

This is so ridiculous. With platforms like Bandcamp there's easily more great music of every genre available than ever before.

Like 99% of people you're biased towards what you grew up with - this is why every generation complains that everything from the next generation sucks. It doesn't, you just aren't willing to do to the work to find good stuff.
It’s not finding music, it’s finding good music. Not saying there isn’t but it’s rare. I love some newer bands. Shinedown is great and I’ve always been a huge Godsmack fan. Just saying I don’t think newer music is as good as the 80-90 genre of rock.

OMG... Totally disagree. I grew up on Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Motley Crue, etc and still love them but

Disturbed
Chevelle
Perfect Circle
A7X
Cradle of Filth
Stabbing Westward
White Zombie
etc, etc...

And these aren't even the heaviest. Seriously, great bands out there.

I only like OG rap. Run DMC, Ice T, Beasties, Eminem, etc. Some country is okay, even bluegrass. It's pop that blows today. Just as it did 30 years ago.
Agree on your list! Phenomenal music! Chevelle White Zombie and all those are excellent.

Not a big fan of modern music. There is some good songs, zombie, son of a sinner, etc. I like some classic rock, country. Can't stand heavy metal or any rap or r and b. Growing up my cousin would listen to Eminem. Good God I can't see the appeal just some angry kid screaming. I can see those rap battles where they rhyme and diss each other being funny but can't listen to rap. Country some songs tell a story which I like.
Son of a Sinner is really really good!

Probably the best song ever, can't believe a rapper can do a country song so well. I used to date a girl who was an alcoholic. Was hanging out with her once and she put on an Eminem song. For the love of god I told her I wasn't being rude but I couldn't listen to it. I literally would commit suicide if I had to listen to it all day. Cra,y how music can put you in a great mood but some music can make you want to be deaf.

Gotta admit he's pretty spot on tho!

Okay, I'll bite.

Yea, I get that, 100%, but . . . when viewed through the lens of history
you cannot ignore the fact that every older generation has said that
about every younger generation. Not the exact same thing but pretty
damn close. It's the old 'I used to walk five miles to school every day
. . . in the snow' mentality.

In all aspects of culture you will see that. The arts, literature, sports,
technology, etc.. Hell, even in relationships, romance, and sexual mores.

And what is even more revealing it that we are saying that about the
current younger crop of bodybuilder . . . they don't work as hard, diet
as hard, rely too much on chemicals. Oh well, get used to it. With few
exceptions (think Japan), it ain't going back the way it was.

You gotta go with the flow. You can't hold back the sands of time forever.
Every new generation brings it's own set of challenges and . . . and perhaps,
just perhaps, if we all live long enough, we will see the younger generation
that we speak of so fondly of here, will be saying the same we are saying
about the generation that succeeds them.

Be happy, it's called perspective, that's all I'm sayin'.

"Get off my lawn or I'll call the cops!" or some equivalent has probably been said for a half a million years.

how is this for a mix of genres
I saw the clash live on broadway...opening act= grandmaster flash and the furious five!! they got booed until Joe strummer came out and told crowd to give them a chance because its up and coming genre.. later Mikey Dread ( Jamaican reggae) star, not like that pop fake reggae(shaggy) joined the clash on stage...pretty good night

Love it

Very true! Of course technology has a lot to do with it. And yes IM OLD, stop reminding me lol.

Very true, we remember and hear the good music from 70s,80s, and 90s. But we have amnesia(or were not born yet) for the God awful music in those decades.

Just the way our parents loved our music right? (they never did). My dad and I were sharing a vehicle once when he said, “I always liked this song.” It was Erasure’s “A Little Respect”. This is my 85yr-old father and he is saying he liked this mamby pamby music? He was a trapper/fisher/hunter. He could eat 90% of this board, including myself. Ridiculous.

I was listening to punk when my dad came home from work. he asked "what are you all hopped up on the pot?"
lol, i went thru that in 6 grade, only come to find out that moms liked some punk bands she didnt really realize were punk also from back in the day (sex pistols, the clash, some post-punk/new wave siouxsie etc) instant bond. before that it was 1960s flower power music in elementary school (still love it) and she was impressed as that was kinda her generation lol.

The punk was tolerated. Skinny Puppy (industrial) was not. It was LSD and devil's music 😆
indie is a little weird in his defense :)

Same applies to Hip Hop/Rap.... Run DMC, Tupac, Tribe Called Quest.... THAT shit is awesome...New Hip Hop is a freakin joke....shit is garbage
You may be saved by AI versions of our favorite passed artists. This stuff is crazy. totally new Tupac song, computer(ai) generated. Potential is endless. Think this AI stuff is what has Hollywood on strike right now.

There's gonna be a day when AI becomes good enough to write songs or even movie scripts that are usable. Even the day will come when concerts could be virtual and AI generated. That sure won't be quite my cup of tea.

That new Tupac video is pretty good. I can imagine AI can help produce videos by those artists that are no longer with us but have unreleased work. I'd take a classic Jimi Hendrix video any day (yes I am an old fart :) )

THAT shit is crazy right there.... Wow..... speechless

Speaking of that era. Check out this video on laurel canyon. It's basically saying the antiwar movement was initially started by normal day to day people. But the hippy movement was used to steal that movement then as a result being the face of the movement. Pretty interesting stuff.
This part starts at 5:10

New popular music sucks. That is true. There is a lot of hidden gems though. Metal is still going strong. The Ihsahn/Matt Heafy collaboration album is some of the best I’ve ever heard.
