Actually, in this case, it appears as though it was their fault. Here's the link to story on the CNN website:

Fortunately, the vehicle they collided with was a 18 wheeler and the driver escaped uninjured. A tragic incident indeed, but it could have been even more tragic if the vehicle they collided with was a small car carrying a family with young children.

This is really sad news indeed. One thing people lose sight of is that kids in highschool have such little driving experience most of the time. Most kids are licensed at 16 and graduate at 18. You can forget driver's education. These kids don't even do all that much actual driving! I would really like to see driver's education incorporate wet skid pad conditions to induce a skid and teach these kids how to handle these situations. They can be taught.

ditto, not just the girls, guys who have had their licence less than 6 months driving like they're the only person on the road, i see teenagers all the time driving like fools, i just want to ring their necks, they got no business being on phones either when they just start driving....

I agree 100% with mack here. it's some "learning" in the classroom when it comes to bad driving conditions, but they don't actually learn how to do that in a real car.

I think its like 20-30 hours of classroom and 6-8 hours in a car?

that sucks for the families and for these young girls that just got a small taste of what life is about.

my co-workers friend was killed back in january because a 17 yr old boy was driving a 300 at 140mph and slammed into the side of her jeep. one girl in the jeep was killed, the other girl lost her leg. the boy driving the 300 was cut in half and the cops found his torso about 20-30 feet from the wreckage. it was pretty nasty.

I remember almost every single girl I knew back in Highschool has been involved in some kind of accident. There were accidents everyday after school let out, not even a mile down the road! And 90% of the time, they were always females! It was never the guys that had the 300+ horsepower sports cars and were always doin crazy shit and haulin ass, but the girls in their little civics, their supersized go carts, The EASYIEST cars on the road to drive! I ride a motorcycle and if it wasen't for my experience and extreme attention to my surroundings, I woulden't be hear typing today. I can recall many many types when young teenie bopper females talking on phones or with friends have almost clobered me and diden't even know until I layed on the horn and said a few "choice words". Driving a car is one of the easiest things to do in life, it's sad that many people can't even do that right.
