Tylenol (acetominophen) is hepatotoxic. In fact even at 4 grams per day you can see elevations in liver enzymes. 1 Extra Strength Tylenol is 1 gram, so it is easy to get into the danger zone. Add gear on top of that or alcohol and it spells trouble.
NSAIDS (ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, aspirin, Cox II inhibitors, etc) can cause stomach ulcers and should be taken with food if you are sensitive and avoid citrus juice if you can help it.
BTW, I never take Tylenol while on. Also, be careful of a lot of cold medications that contain Tylenol. Nytol contains 1 gram per dose. I just talked to a pharmacist friend of mine at UTMB and they admitted a 16 year old girl who had been binge drinking. TO avoid a hangover she took some Tylenol. She showed up in the ER with a fulminant hepatic event and eventually had to have a liver transplant.
Anyway, stick with the NSAIDS - reduce swelling, provide peripheral analgesia (pain relief), anti-pyretic (fever reducing) and won't kill ya.
