I've received several messages inquiring about my protocol, as I mentioned it in a related thread..

First of all, you should be consuming whole intact proteins--FOOD(polypeptides)--every 2-3 hours. Preferably, an optimal combination of low-glycemic carbohydrates and high-quality lean amino acids. Approximately 1 hour after your meal(when MPS[Muscle Protein Synthesis] begins to decline), consume 5 grams of full-spectrum amino acids in conjunction with 2,000-3,000mg of Desiccated Beef Liver extract, 5 grams of BCAA(500:250:250), 2 grams of di and tri-peptides derived from Casein Hydrolysate, and 1-2 grams of Creatine Monohydrate(or Magnesium Creatine Chelate or Creatine AKG).

I'd be happy to explain the function of each, most people do not understand the differences between FREE FORM amino acids and whole INTACT(peptide-bound) amino acids, and how to consume both for optimal gains.

Dr. Di Pasquale has touted the benefits of amino acids pulsing also. I'll try to dig up the papers on it. (the bold part below)

"Amino, while formulated to be the ultimate post training supplement, can also be used at other times of the day. An increase in protein intake by itself has been shown to not only increase protein synthesis and decrease muscle breakdown, but has also been shown to increase both aerobic and anaerobic performance.

But Amino does much more than simply increasing protein intake.
Amino provides a square wave systemic increase in amino acids that translates into an increase in protein synthesis, which in turn keeps the body in an anabolic state. As such it’s perfect as a snack between meals, especially if you’re trying to reduce body fat.

Amino can also be used throughout the day to give a rapid pulsed increase in amino acids and anabolic hormones that leads to short burst increases in muscle protein synthesis. Research has shown that pulses of high levels of amino acids are much more effective in increasing protein synthesis than sustained high levels."

Yeah, considering the transit times of digestion and all that, an hour after a meal is just about when food is hitting the bloodstream and protein synthesis should be increasing.

At least thats what Ive always heard, but I'd be interested in hearing about something to the contrary

It varies, but anywhere from 1-2 hours, so I like to stay on the safe side. Overcoming this refractory period can only be accomplshed using free-form amino acids(l-leucine is the primary activator of MTOR). I also suggest supplementing with digestive enzymes and Betaine HCL.
 
That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw your first post. When's Phil gonna validate LBAs as a great way to spike amino levels between meals?

It's definitely the easiest and tastiest route. No competition there.

I agree with Phil, these "LBA's" seem to provide an easy solution, however, for optimal results I suggest following my entire protocol(with the addition of LBA, or desiccated beef liver as I use).

I just use di/tri full spectrum aminos with added BCAA, AKIC, AKGA and glutamine peptides not between meals but before, during and after training.

I eat so much protein during the week I never see the need to add aminos between meals. No doubt it would provide an edge, though.

Desiccated liver is awesome, I chew 'em with meals.

Why would you recommend someone take betain HCL when you have no idea what their stomach acid levels are? Not smart. You do know the dangers of excess HCL right?

I have everyone peform an "acid test" prior to using Betaine HCL.

I do, every 2-3 hours. ;)

It's what we can do BETWEEN meals that will truly MAXIMIZE muscle protein synthesis, and that is supplementing with free-form amino acids(and some other goodies).
