Sleep Disorders
I have problems falling asleep as well, I could lay there for hours on end just thinking about such stupid shit, like what would happen if...kinda stuff, or simulate what training is gonna be like the following day, sometimes I end up solving complex math or physics problems in my head (which takes awhlile). I dont think I ever had sleep paralysis but sometimes id get this thing where all of a sudden evrything feels alot bigger, louder, and just a hell of alot more intense in general. Its really disturbing, I just have to lay there still as possibly cuz even if I move my pincky toe it feels like I slammed my entire leg though the bed and every car that passes by sounds like an M-1 tank, its really sick. But when I eventually fall asleep Im out like a light and dont wanna wake up. I try go to sleep really early though to give myself enough time to actually fall asleep and get my 8-9 hours since I gotta wake up pretty early. But despite getting all that sleep, from the moment I awake to the second I to to bed, im always exhausted and sleepy, the only time im not is when I train, which is one of the reasons I keeps coming back for more.
I cant speak for everyone, but the reason I think alot of people have problems like this is becouse we are immersed in such a busy and high stress enviornment and we're always being bombaded with usless information like the media, or commercial ads triyng to sell us something. So you always have this background noise in your head, constantly thinking and planning out your next move, interpreting data, always being completely devoted to, and involved in your everyday life. And it keeps going even when you no longer need it or theres nothing important to think about, youre brain is trained to do so.
What has helped me somewhat recently is concentrating on something which doesnt require cognitive thought. Try this for instance: close your eyes, youre bound to see some particles in the darkness moving around or something...just concentrate on them, dont try to see an image in them just concentratre on looking at them. If your attention starts to wonder, focus it back on the particles. In the long run you wanna teach yourself to stop the random thoughts and think of absolutly nothing (which is an oxymoron if you think about it). Regardless, this kind of thoughless state has been practiced for centuries in the east and has been proven to provide numerous health benefits as well as a very anabolic enviornment in the body by western medicine.
