I have recently posted another thread regarding MMA and steroid use , but watching the sport for a while and knowing how many talk trash about their competition , and not to mention people like both Ken Shamrock and recently , Brock Lesner and how they come across as pricks and imagine the women are the same way. I have seen the movie " The Karate Kid" and sequels and wonder if this is what your typical MMA is like and think these were the type of people who stole other kids lunch money or got into locker room fights if someone had so much as bumped into each other which I remember happened with jocks back in high school . I just wonder because I have been a big fan for a long time and know not all these people or even pro boxers are arrogant , mean , somebody you'd be afraid to accidentally bump into .

Just like any other sport bro some great guys and some pricks.

Far from it. Most are cool and won't fight unless paid to do so.

Most of the guys at my gym are some of the nicest guys I know. One of the best pro fighters has never even been in a street fight, and he can probably whoop 99% of the populations asses

no

I worked wit a guy that did mma, he was real cool.

MMA is the only sport I participate in other than bodybuilding.

If anything, I think MMA and bodybuilding lends itself to the weak who become much stronger than the stereotypical bully. Why would you want to spend all your time trying to look like a superhero? Why would you want to spend all your time learning how to completely dismantle somebody in a fight? Probably because that emotion hits home with you. You associate a physical or confontational weakness with overall weakness as a person.

Personally, that's exactly why I started both. Now it's for personal competitive reasons coupled with overall health, but the fire up my butt was that insecurity.

Look at the Gracie family. If anything, BJJ is designed to make a bully look REALLY bad.

Any Dojo or gym that I've ever been in wouldn't tolerate bigheaded bullies or troublemakers. It goes against the whole ethos of Martial Arts as the idea is to use it only if absolutely necessary.

Of course knobheads will slip through any net but they invariably get their ass handed to them in due course :)

well going by the people I know personally

-one is a dick
-another is an old dick
-one has serious self esteem probs
-the other is a cool dude

But to be fair, the same can be said of the people I know who bodybuild lol. Theres weirdos in all walks of life.

some dicks
some cool

just like anything else...

Hell i know a couple guys that would run if confronted on the street...farthest from a bully you can imagine..

Well......

I would have to agree with the statement that you get both types of people doing it.
The type who have always like to bully and hurt and dominate people. The pricks.
Then the type who do it for the sport and competition. I would say 85% of the guys in my gym are nice and the type that would give you the shirt off there back.
15% are the arragont pricks who like to fight in the street as much as they do in the ring. Its a power trip. They couldn't get the hottest girl, or make the most money. So they prey upon those who have done better than themselves.
Whats funny though..is after the fights over the guy they pummeled is still going to go home and have his wounds tended to by his hot ass girlfriend, and his bank account is still going to be biggger than the bullies. :D

Forget mma.... it's all about wing chun. A good wing chun man never goes down ;)

on the streets size and technique dosnt matter when youre gettin sprayed by a strap

Well thanks for clearing that one up CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!!!! But cowards must use weapons. I meant hand to hand combat. A good wing chun man would take a bjj guy any day.

If that was so, all the MMA fighters would use wing chun. There is a reason Muay Thai and BJJ are the most commonly used.....because they are the 2 best martial arts and when combined you get freaks like the UFC fighters.

BTW, i know not all of them are MT and BJJ fighters

I couldn't comment in general but a fighter that was with the IFL & had 2 UFC fights used to go to My gym & told Me as a kid he was troubled so he took up BJJ & Wrestling to keep him out of trouble & build discipline...as a professional he is super nice & well mannered(even though his appearance is pretty intimidating)

There is a bit of showmanship going on in all competition, but in wrestling and MMA it is very obvious as the berating that competitors give their opponents. The organisers and managers want to give it that little bit more edge so they get the fighters to talk back, it's not my cup of tea, but it adds drama for some.

Of course some fighters are going to be dicks, just as some bodybuilders are, just as some librarians are (yes, i'm looking at you, stupid woman who charged me 6p in fines, how the hell do i get 6p in fines?), it's unavoidable.

Honestly, I truly wish the Gracie Brothers had never tried to promote Brazilian Ju Jitsu to the general public as a superior Martial Art and Self Defense format in the USA. In my opinion the majority of the MMA fanbase are either hicks or compulsive degenerates (losers). Due to popularity of the sport, many think that they can become a superb world class MMA fighter with little to no training while others simply dabble in the sport in a attempt to be a bad ass on the streets. Most of the technical aspects of grappling/wresting while using other styles of martial arts to submit the other opponent are sorely lacking in today's MMA events. Based on most of the rule changes within the sport over the years, a majority of the events end up amounting to nothing more than a bar brawl with no real strategic fighting skills being shown. Sadly, it looks like MMA is becoming less of a skilled art form/sport and more like Redneck Judo.
