First two weeks are brutal you can only have around 20grams of carbs per day. but plenty of protein and fats
Anyone else try this?

When I was around 13-14 yo i was pretty overweight as was my mom. That was right when this diet hit television and "took the nation by storm." I was playing football in school and it was during the summer and we were doing two-a-day practices. I started the atkins diet and followed it for around 4 months two of which were doing these practice sessions. We got the keto strips and all that crap too. My mom stopped after dropping about 20lbs or so and I ended up dropping around 30-35lbs. We had bloodwork done a couple of times and mine had improved dramatically. Prior I had high b/p, high cholesterol, and some other #'s I don't remember. After that I got into training and lifting for high school football and ended up dropping another 20lbs or so and then started putting on some size. Thats kinda the Atkins diet summary with the summary of how I got into bodybuildling haha. If I could do it again i would have changed this more towards the palumbo approach with healthier fats. I feel the Atkins/Palumbo approach (no flaming, I realize we are all different) are mostly when you need to drop weight more quickly/dramatically.

yes, emabarrassed to say i tried it

eventually couldn't have a bowel movement.
got REAL tired of stomach problems and being tired and craving carbs all the time. it was hell.
now i keep my macro's in the proper balance and get big and lean much easier and healthier. -JS

What does your daily diet look like? This is not a healthy approach to losing weight... assuming you're doing the typical high saturated fat approach.

Its clean mostly chicken and turkey with some red meat, egg or egg whites no bread, sugar or starchy foods. No milk or milk products (lactose) no fruits but green veggies are allowed. Very low carbs 20g/day for phase one (first 2 weeks).

I tried The Atkins diet many years ago,the results for fat loss were great, but i had no energy and my breath smelled like a camels anus.

I am currently on a modified "Atkins" style diet to relieve myself of the last little bit of flab that I have. Here is a typical day for me:

Meal 1: 6oz. egg whites/1 scoop of Optimum Whey G.S. (shaken up)
Meal 2: 1 1/2 scoops of Gaspari Myofusion/ 1 Tbsp. Natty P.B.
Meal 3: 8oz. chicken breast/ 28 Almonds
Meal 4: same as meal #2
Meal 5: 8oz. Sirloin steak/ Salad w/1tbsp. EVOO and 1 tbsp. organic Apple cider vinegar
Meal 6: same as #2 and #4 (most of the time I skip this)

Lots of water, and Sugar Free Kool Aid to drink throughout the day.

10g Glutamine 5g BCAA's twice daily as well

I am trying to keep carbs under 50g/day for 6 days per week. One cheat day on the weekends, sometimes it's extended to 36 hours max.

Be sure to take a fiber supplement on a diet like this.

Make sure you supplement with EFAs too (omega 3 and 6).

Got any suggestions on the EFA's? I just can't stand the fish burps, that's all. I have a fiber supplement on hand, but haven't really had a need to use it, as I am fairly regular (compared to how I have been in the past on a diet like this)

Try enteric coated fish oil caps for omega 3 without the burps, and evening primrose oil for omega 6.

Thanx Shelby.

Alin: You just have to force yourself through the low carb blahs. A lot of it is mental. Some people respond well to a diet like this and some don't. It's really an individual thing.

I've lived on the "anabolic diet" for the past few months. It's basically keto during the week with 24-48 hour carb ups. I actually got the idea from a thread on here. I lost a few lbs but I kinda screwed around a little too (I wasn't doing it to strictly cut fat so on the weekends I ate whatever I wanted).

For the next few weeks I'm going to experiment with the "Palumbo Diet" which as I understand it, is basically the same thing except you have a much shorter carb up. I'm doing this with some low intensity cardio to cut a little more fat.

As far as energy goes it's really not that bad. I don't crave carbs too much either... the carb ups make it manageable. All in all I like it.

I’ve been on low carb for right at two years and my energy is though the roof now. The biggest thing is to make it past the first two months and your body will start getting the picture that it can start using fat for energy.
Wheat bread and vegetables are really my only carb sources and I would hate to change at this point. Also fiber is a must but really it should be on any diet.

Dr. Serrano's Zero Tolerance Plan is a lot better. You can eat as much green veggies on it and accept for something high glycimic such ass peas and you carb load one every 14 days when metabolism starts slowing. He talks about amino acid loading as well and sells a few good amino products, but i would use whatever brand U like. His diet also has alot of EFFAS.

def not for me. I think you eventually stop craving carbs because your metabolism starts moving slower and ur basically a walking zombie. I like to stay hungry, if my body is always hungry I know I'm doing something right

Agreed.

atkins worked pretty good for me but the energy was very low. so i started cheating with more carbs on workout days. and more cardio on non workout days. still droped a good amount of fat.
