barbell rows and dead lifts, what do you use for grip?

I refuse to use straps, I just make my hands stronger. My grip is wayyy behind because of years of straps. Now I use Kroc rows(high rep DB rows), some gripper work, farmers walks, and a few other things I really feel its better to make your week points stronger as opposed to "help" them and keep them week just my .002

BTW I use a double overhand grip as long as I can and then switch to over under

what kind of weight do you handle with no straps? I consider myself to have a strong grip but I do rows with 355 for 8 and there's no way I could do 8 without straps.
 
You could also look into the hook grip, it's what olympic lifters use. It's a bit painful at first, but once you get used to it, it's supposed to be pretty effective.
 
Straps for me too. Would never be able to pull heavy enough weight to make my back grow without them!
 
I don't use gloves, straps, chalk, nothing. I have weak grip strength too but the only way to improve is expose it to the unknown. eventually it will catch up. use of straps will only hinder gains. however, straps do come in handy for PR's etc.
 
I use straps and overhand grip for anything over 315 on rows, shrugs, or deads. Even when I use straps, I'm still squeezing hell out of the bar; it's not just hanging there. If I ever went back to powerlifting (not farggin likely) I'd work grip seperatly. Really intense grip work is some of the most painful you can do. I don't like gripper devices. I just load a heavy bar and hold it as long as I can, strip some weight, grab it again and so on. It's brutal, especially if you have partners to strip it for you.
