Just get a small lock box from the office supply section or store.
Id put it up high in the closet, I assume they are younger kids, probably wouldn't go In your closet on the top shelf. Inside some sort of box.Lol. Old fart. Dating a new lady and her kids come around too.
The pot idea is actually genius lolI keep things like my passport, spare keys and other valuables in big cooking pot which is in the very back of my kitchen cabinets. If I ever get broken into which is highly unlikely, I doubt any burgerler is going to take time to go through my kitchen cabinets and pots.
I think an attic is probably a pretty safe bet too. Not many are going to inconvenience themselves with pulling down the attic latter and climbing through that tiny space.
Most people have fireplaces only for show. I know I rarely use mine. The fire place shaft would make another great hiding spot.

I used to be a cop. We were searching a gang bangers house for a gun used in a shooting. We knew he had it in there and absolutely could not find it. Until one guy decided to search the fridge. It was ultimately found inside a zip lock baggy, at the bottom of a cold pot of chili. Nobody ever thought to dump the chili out until we were almost ready to give up.
