What do you guys think about this new division now that we have had our first real show ? A joke, something that might be kinda cool for women who dont want to take any performance enhancement products ? The real reason I ask is because FitSarah has actully thought about doing this division, because she hates the thought of competing with the naitional level girls (In figure)...I mean we all know that some of those girls use performance products (at least some research products) and she has really been thinking that she could really do well in that division and maybe get noticed...I believe she could, but I also have told her that if she just keeps dieting and training hard she could compete in national level figure without using performance prodcuts...the other side is that people might think these girls are a joke and dont even belong on the stage...So what are you thougths guys ???

I added a few pics from the show over this past weekend...

i know my gf feels the same way fitsara does. she doesnt want to look overly muscular or take performance enhancement. but she did some figure shows and did do well but doesnt like the way some of the other girls look. i guess its a good thing to see some softer bodies and mabye some different curves.

also i didnt take a look at the pics. but mabye it will be a hit who knows.

My opinion is that they if they are going to have a bikini and/or figure divisions they may need to have either their own seperate day or contest entirely. I went to a show awhile ago that had over 60 competitors just in the figure portion of the show. That was a brutal prejudging let me tell you.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for women having the option of bikini or figure - whatever floats your boat. But it really sucks for the bodybuilding crowd to have to sit thru all those quarter turns.

I think they should start having the whole bodybuilding prejudging first thing during morning prejudging ( especially for local shows ) and then those who want to see the figure and bikini part can stay or go.

just my two cents worth..

I added some pics at from my first post, so everyone could see the girls who competed in bikini this past weekend

Well.... my opinion probably won't be popular around here. I will NOT judge a show with a bikini division. I appreciate seeing an attractive woman in a bikini, but why should they be in the same show as women who have busted their butts training hard and dieting?

The women in the pictures you posted fit the NPC description of what a bikini competitor should look like to a T.... Attractive, but I honestly can't tell if any of them have ever set foot in a gym.

I have talked to a few top level women BB (amateur and pro) and they understand that this is all about ticket sales for the NPC. Women's bodybuilding is not accepted by the average person and figure is borderline, what is sure to sell is the soft, youthful, college girl at spring break look.

Hell, why doesn't the NPC just go ahead and add a Wet-Tshirt division since this is all about ticket sales?

I'm pretty disappointed with the NPC over this. Just my opinion.....

i understand and agree with what you're saying. the competition is just that - a COMPETITON between like minded people who have dedicated themselves to a particular sport. they invest time, effort, work hard, demonstrate discipline, are motivated, etc. the judging in a way picks the person who has worked the hardest and rewards them by choosing them the 'winner'.

the bikini aspect is picking a winner based solely on genetics - how attractive you appear in a bikini. some 19 year old girl with great genetics may have a rockin body - so what why reward her for what she has been given by design? it would be a genetics contest. why not have tall or short competitons, things that no one can control. then we can have a most hairy competiton (which i would win!). i guess it boils down to one thing - sex sells tickets - and money is the biggest motivator.

yep-its all about ticket sales and the Wet-T shirt division is only a matter of time.

I can't help but feel like bodybuilding contest are becoming less and less about bodybuilding and more and more a beauty pagent for the figure and now bikini girls.

By the way, I am now offering my services as head judge for the Wet-T-Shirt division free of charge!

Actully if you go to MD and the contest section, you will see that alot of the girls (ones that didnt do as well in this contest) competed last year in figure at a show, and some competed on the national level...but those girls that did and had some form of muscle and figure shape to them didnt place very well...

chris

Well if its to sell tickets and is really just a crowd pleaser, then the crowd should pick the winner.

Knock the crap off.

hey brother, you get any camel toe shots? post em up if so

This is a serious discussion amongst serious people. You're comment is not at all funny it is stupid and disrespectful to Chris250, the board and it's competitors male and female. Competitive women don't bust their ass and pay their dues so some dumbass with a dumbass avatar can post dumbass comments. You're not funny, you are being disrespectful, knock the crap off and interact with the adults now.

number 23 certainly looks more muscular than most of the other girls in the bikini division..

I do not compete but I agree with what has been said about there being two different shows. You can not compare some girl who does nothing but tan and apply makeup to someone who busts her ass every day of the week.

On a lighter side could I have one night with each one, just to see who is better:D

Please don't tell my wife:(

Norm.......I mean absolutely no disrespect but how can you be so against something that only helps support the NPC financailly? You are going to boycott the entire competition now that they NPC lets women in bikinis play? That sounds a bit extreme. It seems to me (and I could be wrong) that the heads of NPC are only looking to boost the popularity of the NPC with other generations / fans.........generation / fans that like and respect the bikini division. And if in doing so it helps the NPC as a whole then what is wrong with that? Just my opinions.

Bikini competitions are not bodybuilding, never have been, never will be....but if this can let figure go back to what it should be (lightly enhanced women's bodybuilding) instead of the softer T&A look they've been pushing the last couple of years then its ok with me.

Women's Bodybuilding = heavily enhanced
Figure = lightly enhanced
Bikini = surgically enhanced only :D

I couldnt agree more Norm.

This is to bring to attention to the sport... By doing this everyone feels as if they can compete because they don't have to be ripped to win a contest. More competitors=more spectators=more $. There is also more sex appeal but I will not get into that

I think this is just a slap in the face to whomever has competed in a figure or bodybuilding show. These people work very hard to get into great condition. Some people harder than others (with FEW exceptions where a genetically gifted person may not have to diet or train hard at all!). They endure weeks of dieting and training for a few hours to a weekend on stage. Some people can be in bikini condition with as little as a spray on tan.

Chris,

great post and i love these kind of discussions. I took a look at the pictures you posted and then went and compared them with figure competitor pictures. Personally(and i am by no means an expert) i think that if you look at each girls arms and condition in the bikini photos that you can tell they did put some work into and most likely dieted down for the show.

I think you kinda hit the nail on the head and addition to being a revenue generator for the NPC, i think the bikini division might be a great venue for an 'unenhanced' woman to compete. That being said, i think it is also possible to compete as a women in figure and not take anything but it is that much more difficult.

Awesome opinions everyone and i definitely respect what each of you are saying.

Since I am one of the older BB's on this site, I am going to put my .02 in. I remember, when there was just BB's and nothing else. When they first, introduce Fitness competitors, I look at them and wonder, what do they have to do with BB? Later, I accepted it, knowing they had to work out to be in that shape. Then they added figure, and I thought what does this have to do with BB? Now, I look at them and thought they look like they work out, but I wasn't thrilled. When they added Bikini, I thought it was a joke. Now I don't think they have to work out, so what is this have to do with BB? Meanwhile, it makes a BB's day alot longer, when they were long enough. I agree with Norm, this should not be allowed in the same show as a BB show.

I certainly understand the difference between hard work and getting implants and doing crunches. However......I am reticent to knock something that helps shows survive. If each girl has five friends attend it helps raise the water for all the boats. I can agree that the shear number needs to not have a drastic effect on the "real competitors".

The general public is going to dictate what they want in the marketplace. If its more financially viable, you are going to have to tolerate it. Often the extremes are not enough to create a market solely on their own, thus the introcution of figure. I also thing when something works, its a natural tendency to carry it too far until it maybe doesn't work (bikini). I don't blame folks for trying. Lets remember, if the promoters cannot at least break even the quality of the shows and venues will suffer for everyone. Just my opinion.

Forgive me if my lack of knowledge makes this a farcial suggestion, but one idea would be for the national organizations to offer a membership that is supported by non-competitors and competitors alike. The dues could serve to offset the need for the "beauty pagent" at National shows. I would pay to help support the sport although I've never competed. I would certainly pay $19 a year or so to be a "member" or supporter sort of like an NRA membership or Ducks Unlimited, etc. I am a member of one sports national organization and even on the board of directors for my state chapter and I physically probably can never play again. But I do like to support it.
