I have been pondering my first cycle for the last two years now, slowly gathering information on all the aspects of training, nutricion and post-cycle recovery. I am starting to think though, for myself anyway that some of the claims are ridiculous, I mean 15-25 pounds of muscle in 8 weeks? My question is: how much muscle can one gain and keep if everything is done right, and this is with using only an efficient amount of drugs.

When you see guys gaining 20+ pounds in 8-10 weeks, then its usually because thay havent came close to their genetic potential.

yeah my thought on those types of claims is this... just because you put that kind of weight on doesn't mean that very much of it was solid muscle. as for 1st cycles id take it slow and see how your body responds to just test on its own its cheap, effective and safe way to baby step into AAS once again though just my opinion

There are so many factors, almost all cycles give you weight you won't hold for long, a lot of h20. If you want to be real with your self w/ gains try some thing like primo/test prop w/ a bit of hcg/anti-e through out. Any newb to a cycle who puts him self on 6-800mg enath/cyp/sust w/ 25-50mg dbol/drol/day is going to gain A LOT OF weight. But who really gives 2 shits about weight? I know I do, and its just that I don't want none of it, unless its QUALITY weight.

Its not normal for anyone to gain 20 pounds of muscle in 12 weeks. 20 pounds TOTAL is possible but most of that weight doesn't do anything but jeopardize your health. Its a lot of water and fat. The scale is lousy at measuring this kind of progress. Visualize in your mind what 20 pounds of lean steak would look like. Thats a LOT of steak! I wouldn't expect that anyone could put on that kind of muscle in a short amount of time.
Heck, I think six pounds of MUSCLE in a YEAR is an accomplishment.

I go by measurement more then weight. If I had a great physique at 300lbs or 150lbs, i dont care, just how is my symmetry.

An interesting experiment is to lay 15-25 lbs of ground beef out on the table and front of yuo and see how much meat that really is.

Now ask yuorself if yuo really think it's realisitic to expect that kind of gain in 8, or even 16 weeks.

Great analogy Dad. When I shot my deer last year, which weighed over 120 lbs, I didn't get much more meat than 20lbs after being processed. 15-25 lbs in 8 weeks definately a ridiculous claim.

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

Another thing to consider is that when you gain 'muscle', not very much of the weight gained is contractile tissue. You have to take into account increases in bone density, new vascular networks (mostly capillaries), water retention/increases in blood volume, etc. So even if you gain some lean mass (lean mass is just anything that is not adipose tissue) not very much of that lean mass is actually contractile protein. I don't know for sure, but probably something like 5% is muscle.

I think what you should keep in mind is that bodybuilding is a process that takes place over many years. Even when chemically enhanced, you should focus on long-term gains rather than worrying about how much weight you gain or 'keep' after just one cycle. Think longevity and health.

Peace In.

For a beginner 15-20lbs of real, lean muscle is possible.........In a year.

Good? Or bad?

Think of it like this,

Bulk cycle = 25lb gain

Now, only about 10lbs of this will be muscle. But, when you consider
how much H2O and blood it takes to support a 1lb of muscle, you will
realize that you have really only gained about 2-2.5lbs of pure muscle
from a bulk cycle.

Everyone thinks Gear will make you into monster over night. Its just not
true, but with 5yrs hardcore dedication, you can morph into a little monster.;)

Well. Lots of good responses here but remember: if hyperplasia occurs, it's going to take time and only when your existing fibers have reached their maximum. For most people, as adults, they have the same amount of actual fibers as they did the day they were born. Cells get bigger. That is hypertrophy, not hyperplasia. It's mostly water and increased blood volume. Neither is very healthy.

If you do a 6 month cycle and then quit lifting altogether, in the same time, you'll be back where you were or worse.

I'm sorry to have to break this to the new guys but drugs help make progress over time but they will not help a weekend warrior, beach boy. It takes years of dedication and sweat to build real muscle. If you want to look good at the country club pool, they may help, but a single cycle or two or three will not leave you bigger over time off drugs. Look at the pros that were unreal huge. Some of them were in the game for 10-15 years or more. 5 years off all that and they go back to what their body is made to have.

OTH is 100% correct. To have a big dense look you need thick muscle. To get thick muscle density takes years of hard training and equally hard eating. it is more about the longevity or time under the iron than the drugs will ever be. This is one of the things I have been trying to impress upon the younger warriors. It takes time and patientce, drugs are not a shortcut, but more a tool in your tool box to help you along the way. It will still take years of busting your ass in the gym and the kitchen to get the proper size and look!!!

You guys have done a great job answering this excellent question. I love this question. How much muscle can you gain and keep from a cycle.

My opinion is this... People often mistake numbers on a scale for muscle. That is not correct. When you start your cycle you often gain water and hold it so your going to gain weight right away. This is not muscle fiber. Basically when its all said and done, how much quality did you gain, not quantitity.

I would take quality over quantitiy any day bros! its how good you look. If you gain a few pounds of lean mass that is great! And thats all one should realiscally expect. Bodybuilding is not somthing that can be rushed. Sure you can, but again, Im striving for quality.

And in the end I want to have lean, ripped tissue on display not just bulk and water under my skin and big numbers on a scale.

Personally i have gained 20lbs of lean tissue in 5 years, And my conditioninig is pretty damn good. This is on average 4lbs a year.

Im helping several guys here and i often remind them to hide their scale. Because the scale can undermine you. Its not how much you weigh but what you look like and feel like.

Im doing the nationals again this year and will probably lose about 7lbs from start of my 16 week diet to the end like i did last year. And I look like i gained weight. So I did lose weight(fat) but put on muscle while dieting. This is the ideal situation.

if i gained 25 lbs in 8 weeks i would be happy to keep 5-10 lbs
i do know with aas if i go with much higher reps i 100% definitly keeep a better % of quality

Listen to this guy! He's one of our rippingest members here, if not THE most ripped. He maintains condition and is dry and tight semingly all year. That's what you want. Hard, dry, quality muscle.

4lbs a year sounds about right to me. 20-25 in 8 weeks??? No way. Your body just will not make 4lbs of muscle in in a few months. You're only going to theoretically get new muscle when your existing muscle cells are at their fullest and MUST divide. Fat cells almost same deal.

No offense but around here we call that a rabbit.......lol
