Can you be a bodybuilder and only lift 3x a week?

I think a lot of people here are under the misconception that 3 days a week means 1x a week frequency, which I personally believe is an 'inferior' frequency.

You can train 3x a week, and hit every body part 2x a week.

This is a very popular split ( A/off/B/off/A/off/off/B/off/A/off/B/off/off/repeat) and has created plenty of IFBB pro bodybuilders.

So if the simple question is: Can you be a bodybuilder and train 3 days a week? The answer is Yes, obviously.

I was just wondering with school and work, if this was possible.
As in, work out twice per day for 3 days

Would you consider The Mentzer brothers..Casey Viator..Dorian Yates Bodybuilders???

Push Pull Press.

Chest, Back, Legs.

DC two way 3x week works for a lot.

I like upper/lower split EOD. Makes cycling calories easy also. Eat a surplus on lifting days and a deficit on off days

You could work out once a week and make gains. I only work out 2-3 days a week for anyone short of a professional competitor that is plenty. I used to train 5-6 in college. I am not a "bodybuilder" but pretty damn close. Honestly if your training hard it takes time to recover. I think the guys training 5-6 days a week train like girls.

I train 5 days a week. Wonder if you think I "train like a girl". :D

Seems to me the smaller weaker people can train all day every day...the bigger and stronger you get the longer it takes to recover .. I laugh at guys training legs 2 times a week ,I can't walk right for 5 days but they all have little legs and the same guys lack back thickness as well..

Lol it's funny how some of the biggest strongest guys in bodybuilding have trained up to 2x a day. 4-5 times a week and Now you have guys on bodybuilding board saying "if you train 5 days a week you don't train hard enough"

I agree ..everyone is so different and it depends on drugs, genetics, blah blah blah...and the monsters always do it wrong..lol...if you listen to most, the guys looked better in the 90s and they knew nothing compared to all the internet gurus around now..

I banged myself up pretty bad prepping for a show. Now that it's over I'm trying legs/push/pull and slowly ramping down cardio on my off days. I love being in the gym but I won't know if it works well for me unless I try it.

Thanks guys for all the responses.

To be more specific it would be the same three days.
Saturday thru Monday.

I couldn't go 4 days off without training. Why not every other day with 2 days off at the end of the split?

Does Abs and a Sauna count ?
Worked up a hellava sweat!

Of course but you have to program your training correctly (this is always key no matter how many days you train).

Look into Fortitude Training there is a "family man" 3 day program that would suit you to the ground.
