Ok so, I needed to complete a 300m freestyle swim today for my work in less than 8 minutes, The entire week I thought it would be a simple task, didnt even phase me to how hard I would think it would be. I do cardio on a treadmil 3mph 15%incline 30 minutes EOD. I always become winded at the end of a cardio session Im guilty for not being disciplined when it comes to my cardio, well anyways It was my first time swimming in about 3 years and I have exactly 1 week to retake this 300m swim or else I loose my job!! any tips points (diet/supplement intake pre swim to increase cardio endurance output??, training tips for this next upcoming week?? anything will help) I only completed about 150m until I became absolutely physically EXHAUSTED!!! I am going to train everyday because I need to complete this swim, I guess its safe to say I have never really had incredible cardio but i need to improve it and improve it QUICK...

Well.............

3mph @ 15% incline is not very intense at all. My suggestion would be to try to mimic the exact type of workout you are going to be tested in. Swimming is much more demanding then the cardio you are currently doing. Get in the pool and start swimming laps!

Citrulline malate buddy same doses I outlined in your other thread. And of course some higher intensity cardio aint gonna hurt either.

yea i guess now is better then never as far as introducing REAL cardio into my daily lifestyle. I guess everyday I will be carbing up and trying to complete the 300m, I know the harder i push myself in the past the quicker my stamina and endurance builds up so I got my swimmies on just in case :D time to head down to the pool lol.

hey goody!
yea I have been putting the doses you recommended in my water source about 1 hour pre workout and i have noticed incredible improvement (lol considering the point i was "improving" from you can obviously tell I didnt have the best cardio regime going for me haha. well its time to get serious with my cardio no more babying myself with the 3mph 15% incline. I think from now on I am going to swim as i enjoy it a lot more Its almost torture being on a treadmil for 45minutes i hate staying in one place for so long.

Do all your cardio in the pool. Thats what you are training for. I do all my cardio there. Its quite amazing what swimming will do for your cardio.

If you dont play on using anything like AICAR, GW1516 etc..then

Yes do harder cardio sessions. Wind sprints always get me in shape QUICK. Example, I try to run 5 100yd sprints in under 12 sec with about 2 min rest between.
Doing your cardio in the pool is a good idea also, its way harder to swim
300m than it is to jog it:eek:.
Good luck broseph

Try this out:

PowerLung: Better Breathing

It'll help you strengthen your diaphram and lungs. Stronger they are, the more air you'll be able to take in, which means more oxygen in your bloodstream. It has resistance levels for breathing in and out. I have one, and it's great.

awesome tips and pointers guys, quick question kinda side note, do you think doing my regular 3 day split (HIT) workouts during the week on top of daily cardio sessions be a good idea could it potentially affect my performance in the pool next week when its "showtime"? I am ok with going without the gym for a week for the sole purpose of completing this swim, or should i mainly focus on the cardio?

I would say to get in the pool and start getting used to the swimming. It takes time to get ur body working in sync along with breathing as well as working on an efficient swimming stroke so u don't get winded. Swimming ain't no joke, it's as hard or harder than anything I've done.
