I think the biggest enemy when dieting down is controlling your desire to cheat.. It takes alot of discipline and motivation to restrict calories, so you want to do it as effeciently and painlessly as possible. There are a couple of strategies that i implement to make the journey easier..
#1) Fiber is your friend: Fiber is great at curbing hunger.. taken with meals it helps prolong your ability to feel full. I like to take a good dose late at night when i get my worst cravings.. It seems to keep me in check..
#2) Including plenty of healthy fats in my diet: I make sure to get a balance of fats in my meals (grass fed meats, coconut oil, grass fed butter, red palm oil, olive oil, macademia nut oil). Typically when dieting your consuming alot more veggies in place of complex carbohydrates. So micronutrients are even more important at this time.. I always make sure I have my veggies with some fat to allow optimal absorbtion and the fact that there are alot of fat soluable vitamins in my veggies and without a fat source i don't injest these micronutrients, which are key to my health and satiety. Fat does a great job at curbing future hunger pains..
#3) Carbonated or seltzer water: Seems to do me a good job at curbing my hunger.. I know several folks who consume a Coke Zero and it alleviates hunger pains.. I try to stick with the bubbly water versions...
