My training partner is a diabetic and has gotten alot of mixed information on what ratios of carbs/protien/fat to eat while bulking.

I was hoping that someone on the site could share some info on the best way for a diabetic to eat for bulking. And if anyone feels so inclinded to do so, give some input on what type of cutting diet he could use.

Also he has to take insulin on a daily basis.

Thanks.

Not sure why nobody is responding as we "must" have lots of diabetics on board - they're always posting about taking insulin :D

I remember reading about a bodybuilder back in th 80's - Tim Belnap. He was a diabetic (had it pretty bad) that did very well at National level bb'ing and was one big boy and that bb'ing helped keep his diabetes under control. I don't remember reading that he did anything "different" other than being on a "bodybuilding" diet.

The only thing he cant do is completely remove carbs from his diet. He knows his body better than anyone, even his doctor, so he should be able calculate the ratio that best suits him. He can play with it. He will know when he has cut too much carbs out. That is probably the best way for him to tally his ratio's.

Type 1

He take insulin daily for maitenance purposes.

lmao bro

since he is a diabetic to be on the safe side id go over it with a doc ,maybe a sports med doc

someone explain the difference between type 1 and 2 diabetics, which ones need insulin and which dont?, if he is one that needs insulin then i would set up a program in which he got most of his carbs in the am and around workouts with a high protein intake and low fat intake, and his last two meals or so would be no carbs, healthy fats like fish oil to improve sin sensitivity, id also add r-ala to his daily regime

type 1 need insulin and blookwork checked frequently ED.
type 2 can use glocophage, ro even just a diet adjustment in some cases.

and as i recall they cannot release insulin from their pancreas in response to elevated blood sugar levels like one gets from carbs. I would recomend a diet like this:
Meal 1: 80 g Protein, 50 g Carbs
Meal 2: 50 g Protein, 30 g Carbs
Meal 3: 40 g Protein, 30 g Carbs
Meal 4: 40 g Protein, 20 g Fat
Meal 5: (Post Workout): 80 g Protein, 100 g Carbs
Meal 6: 40 g Protein, 20 g Carbs
Meal 7: 80 g Protein, 20 g Fat

Now he would take slin with his carb meals and outside of his postworkout shake they should be complex carbs. I would also recommend 200 mg's r-ala with each carb meal and maybe 300 mg's with postworkout shake.

But I would rather not even do this diet. Is it possibel since his pancreas doesnt release insulin in response to carbs to just do a keto type diet with carbs after workout as i absolutely love these diets
