What do you guys think of this article, I dont know if I would recommend it, just because I have always been in the bb diet type mentality where you eat many meals throughout the day everyday. Personally I dont read mens health, I think its pretty lame and redundant, but my Dad gave me this article and said he's trying it out.

i think the article was bullshit. this guy keeps making statements that are both counter-intuitive and hypocritical. 'Don't do this diet unless you eat healthy as this may cause an increase in blood pressure' meanwhile he is talking about the chocolate cake he is going to eat later that week. he starts off in the article by saying that this 36 hour fast is a good way to make you appreciate the foods you eat and to allow you to eat what you want (i.e, cakes, steaks, burgers, chinese food) and finishes the article by saying how you need to eat particularly healthy things. I don't know about you, but whenever i have fasted, both when i was trying to and when i did it unintentionally (i.e. long trips, hospital, being at work all day) all i wanted to do was stuff my face when food was in front of me. this may work for a buddhist, but not for me.
 
it is actually a fairly well written article, and I am not sure how anyone could claim there aren't health benefits of fasting or caloric restriction. probably not the best thing for a competitive bb'er but good for someone who's primary goals are maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

there is no doubt there are health benefits. that being said however, the article is at its base counter-intuitive. either fast for health reasons and eat healthy or don't fast at all. if you eat shit all week long and fast for 36 hours, its not going to negate the side effects of being unhealthy. the article just seemed somewhat dangerous in that it seems to offer a great solution to being a fat pig.
 
ya, my question is if you were to eat healthy and watch your diet on your eating days, then fast that one day, is it really that beneficial?

I would like to know what more of you think since my dad wants to try this out. It seems to me to be fine for the non BB.

seems fine for the non BB, provided that said person follows a healthy eating protocol on the non-fast days. this should not be looked at as a means to gorge 5 days a week.
 
His side is argued eloquently, however I'd love to see what the author looks like...nothing the average virile man strives to be, I'm sure.
 
I've fasted on and off for several years. I only have done juice fasting (min 600 calories to support basic CNS function.) The longest fast I did was for 10 days. I've never felt or slept better in recent memory. It reminded me of the days when I was a young kid and would spring out of bed full of energy. Quite amazing really.

rmnivs243 - I understand and agree with your point that fasting should not be the "new fad diet" that allows you to eat that chocolate cake. It should be done out of a desire for health and nothing else (recognizing also that various religious beliefs require or encourage fasting.)

I think that fasting is very beneficial for a bodybuilder (non-competitive) when used in moderation or less. Digestion takes a lot of energy. People in a bodybuilder lifestyle will eat 5-10 times a day. Fasting gives your body a chance to rest a little.

After experimenting, I've migrated towards a 3-day fast once per month. This fasting fits well into my life, but I also wouldn't put classify myself as a bodybuilder. I eat a good diet. I naturally have wide shoulders and thick legs. Oh, and I love to lift. There is just something very manly and satisfying about lifting. Whether you do it with furious passion or quiet determination, nothing feels better than beating that log book...

right now i'm fasting every day, for 16-18hrs, i.e start eating @ 11.00-13.00 and stop @ 19.00-20.00
energy levels are great while in fasted state, mood is great too + lots of health benefits. if you think a bit about our ancestors, thats the way human body should work. i doubt they had food always ready when they woke up, they had to hunt/gather it first and then had a feast :D we are not made to eat meals every 2-3hrs, our body needs time to rest and clean itself. dunno if it would work for competitive bb'ers due to insane counts of calories required to build muscle, and it might be a problem to consume 1500-2000 kcal 3 times in 8 hrs.. though there are success stories with eating 2-3x a day and building muscle. Strongman Savickas eats 2-3x/day ;) anyway im cutting fat atm, and this is by far the best way to do it for me.
 
If I dont eat at least 4 x a day, I feel like crap during and after my training. Don't forget when you say that BB eat every 2-3 hours, your talking small meals. If you eat 3 large meals a day, I would think your taxing your digestive system as much as eating small meals every 3 hours. Plus the nutrients are utilized more effeciently with small meals.
 
well my problem is insulin resistance, so fasting helps me a lot to fix it.
ye nutrients may be used better with small meals, i agree on that.
but i eat for 8hrs now, while i'd eat for 15hrs with 6 meals ;)

The only medecine im for is in Case of Trauma, If someone broke his leg,Wounds or something in that case. IN THAT CASE MEDECINE IS A WONDERFUL THING.

Having a Heart seizure is made from Eating the Wrong Nutrition, Drug habits.

The only thing that matter is Insulin.

Driving Insulin LVL UP Every 3 Hour will Lead to Insulin Resistance and Glucose Problem.

He didnt Have A "Breakfast" , a "Lunch" and A "Dinner"

He goes on a Hunt(while hunting he see Nuts in trees, he eat the nuts, Then ha he see a Banana and some berrie he eat them, Then Wow he kill a deer and eat the deer with his peers. (Protein- FAT- SOME CARBS IN THE FORM OF FRUITS,Vegetables)

He didnt Eat Soda, Whey Protein, Waxy Maize or eat some bagels lol

Thats what its all about.

Sugar is most Stupid Drug , YES Sugar is a drug that was man made.

Its Crap, You dont need to Survive and Be Healty.

In fact The more you Secret Insulin , The faster you Age.

Low insulin Level = HIGH GH

High GH = Muscle Mass Preserved, Lipogenis.à

Your correct. Cavemen did not eat every 3 hours. That's why it took thousands of years for man to evolve in to Ronnie Coleman.

Insulin is highly anabolic. Once you know how to manipulte it, you can grow past your potential.
