what are some of your favorite meals to eat while on a keto diet? and what are the ratios? i could use some more meal ideas. thanks

i don't mean cheat meals. i mean meals you eat on a daily basis.

You don't have too many choices. For me basically tuna, lean meats, fish, eggs, that's about it.

almond encrusted chicken (beat the breast flat and cover in almonds and either grill or bake, cover in the oven if baking) In fact a chicken breast covered in parma ham, sealed in tin foil with a dash of lemon juice and olice oil then slow roast at 175 degrees, serve with small baby spinach watercress or rocket salad.

I advised my friend who eats eggs (i don't) to make poached eggs (2) on top of smoked salmon, with an udo's and fresh lemon dressing (for salmon), that's about as good as it gets, he loves it. And egg white omelette, with mushrooms and a side of tomato salsa.

Fresh tuna steak (large 400g) on romaine lettuce a splash of light soy with a dash of wasabe sauce. Slice the tuna steak leaving a little raw in the middle.

Chicken Piri Piri. or maybe BBQ chicken skewers with cherry tomatos, sliced peppers and mushrooms.

be as creative as possible and you find the diet easier to stick to. For my main meals which doing keto I usually try to cook something special so that the diet is not so boring.

food for thought for you...............

:D :D

Ratios: 30-40% protein / 60-70% fat... the higher fat %, the easier it is to enter and stay in ketosis.

Remember ketones protect muscle tissue... hence less protein needed.

Lots of good oils, eggs, some whey isolate, a little tuna and meat.

So while on the keto diet, do you guys have a post workout drink that contains some simple carbs? In my opinion that would be against everything that the diet stands for, but then again, you need it post workout to grow.

Thoughts?

alcatraz,
If you're already in ketosis then no more than 25 grams of malto PWO won't kick you out of ketosis and it will give you the insulin rise and hence anabolic effect you're looking for.

Also you don't really NEED it to grow, since whey protein causes a pretty drastic rise in insulin secretion that most people forget about, this will have the same anabolic effect. What most people need is a little glycogen replensishment. High dose glycine and glutamine PWO will help with this.

What is "Glycine"?????

My favourite Keto Meal:

1 pound Tbone Steak with Roasted Garlic and Onion with blue Cheese on top then grill to melt the cheese, then add 4 fried eggs on top with heaps on rock salt and black pepper.

My opinion is, when you are on the keto diet, you aren't really trying to grow. You are trying to get lean and maintain muscle. If you want to grow, your diet should be totally different. It's very hard to grow without carbs, but you can't have carbs on the keto diet. So choose one, build muscle and eat carbs or don't build muscle and don't eat carbs but lose fat.

First off all adding bad fats to a keto-diet is not really cheating

I wouldnt advise you to start eating a lot of transfats but saturated is OK

Remember you are a fatburner on these diets, the saturated fats are going to be burned just like you're more expensive good fats are so dont be fooled in eating healthy omega's all day long, eat some meat or cheese or eggs

That being said I would aim to balance it 50-50 good-bad or something like that

I think a few of you really have a lot of reading to do on keto dieting.

It's NOT about eating as much fat and protein.
It's all about the RATIOS you do it at. This is honestly, the difference between success and failure with a keto diet.

I've done it both ways, and I've played with it for almost 1.5years.

READ. MORE. ON. KETO. DIETING.
including what kind of keto diet you plan on doing. There's a few different kinds, which will also determine your nutritional ratios.

ps. Hotdogs are NOT a good protein or fat source. Most of them are stuffed with fillers!!! Are you reading the nutritional info on products?!?!!!

Best post in this thread.

And it's very possible to grow on a keto diet, you just need to alter a few things slightly. Some of my best gains have come from a hybrid version of the diet. Experiment with things, you might be surprised at the outcome.

chicken breasts with queso on top

Ive been low carbing for 5 days.
2900 calories
257 protein
228 fat (flax, olive oil)
20 carbs pwo
I have keto sticks and im still in the slight catagory after 5 days. How long until I can expect to be in full ketosis?

Halve the protein, drop the carbs and increase the fats. Dan Duchaine always said that were the protein to fat ratios that mattered.

Wt2Blean, Phidas made a good point here...intially shoot for 30% protien and 70% fat until you hit ketosis. Once you hit ketosis you can adjust to protein 40% and fat 60%.

No carbs until you get into ketosis...you may want to try whey/coconut oil (mct) shakes for workouts. The mct's really help with energy.

Read up on Lyle McDonald's ketogenic diet, very helpful. Theirs some free e-books floating around, do a google search.
