Anyone else experience this? I get it right in the ball of my hip socket. Just an ache that sticks around for days. It does not bother me too much while lifting, but the joint feels sore, and perhaps loose. I've tried some stretching techniques, but to no avail.
Any suggestions?

I did

So I finally got sick of it and found a "Good" chiropractor (Which was an adventure all it's own) he found that I had some misalignment issues in my lower back, trigger points in my mid and lower back and one of my squatting styles was contributing to the pain. Got the treatment for my back, quit the narrow stance, too deep squatting on the smith machine and I haven’t been aggravated with it since. :)

I 2nd the chiro suggestion, but also think about seeing a foot doctor and getting some orthotics.
I got some a few months ago, and no more hip pain.
Check if your insurance covers it, mine did.

Yes, me too. At first I thought it was just a pulled muscle, but after it took nearly 3 or 4 months to heal... I think it was a pulled ligament/tendon. It was painful to do squats & lunges for a long time but it healed until lately. It's come back again. With all the work we've done on our new place and now moving, I think I reinjured it.

I had this same problem, I changed a few things and it went away:
1) lighten up for a while do high reps until you feel healed
2)make sure at the bottom of your squats your muscles are fully controling the lift and you are not doing any sort of jerking or bouncing motion
3) I stopped using knee wraps and belt not sure if the belt made a difference
4) placed my feet closer together
5) incorporated a new stretch where I place one knee on the ground then push my hips forward and stretched my glutes and groin

All great suggestions. I've got a good ART guy to see, so maybe I can get some work done on the hip.
Can't ditch the belt though, pushing some decent weight and my lower back needs the support.

You might look into a pair of briefs. I would get a loose pair for more passive support. Titan has a good pair made from the Katana material in single ply.

The best thing thing you can do though is get ART to fix the problem.

If I find a movement causes pain or discomfort I will switch exercises.,,,maybe even just change foot position.

i agree with alin try changing your foot position, do you squat wide or narrow? if you squat narrow you use less hips, more quads. if you squat wide you hit hips, inner thighs. so maybe going narrow on squats will help.

I suffer from hip pain ,it is tendonitis.I have changed training etc had time off but it comes back.I think it is caused in my case by the extra force cause by lowering in the squat and leg press too fast.By lowering under control pausing at the bottom and then doing the positive I am able to still train heavy and have the injury slowly heal at the same time.

I squat shoulder width on the smith, similar on the hack and leg press. Wider squat REALLY irritates it. I have been experimenting with different foot positions, but unfortunately, because it does not hurt once I'm warmed up, i can only wait and see after each workout when the dull pain arrives a couple hours later!!! I think ART is probably the next step, appointment on Friday. I can feel the pain from that session already!!

I also have hip pain on one side and have had it for quite a while. I can't really isolate where the pain is as it seems to be over a wide area of hip and upper thigh. I think it may be tendonitis. I now squat on smith machine and use knee wraps and once warmed up I can get through a fairly heavy workout. However, for the next few days it hurts like hell and never really goes away. I'm sure not doing legs for a couple of months will allow it to heal but you all know how it is, that isn't an option.

give front squats on the smith machine a try, when i do front squats the only place i feel it is purely quads. back squats you use much more hip drive, than front squats.
