With all of the outcry coming from Major League Baseball today of the game needs to rid itself of steroids and steroid users need to be punished, it seems to me that the MLB is a bunch of stupid f**ks who have actually lost revenue due to eradicating steroids in the game. Let's look at the facts, during the so called "Steroid Era" many MLB games were in fact sold out due to the pure excitement of talent and drama that steroids brought to the game. Now look at baseball today, it's hard for organizations to even keep fans in the stands. Let's be honest bro's, no one wants to go to a game to see basehits. It freaking boring, I miss those days of constant homers and pitchers routinely throwing 95 mph and up. I just wish Major League Baseball would have stayed the same and allowed players to still juice.

I kind of agree with your basic feeling here, cuz I don't think there should be all this hoopla about guys using gear, but the league definitely is not suffering.. They set attendance records in 04-05-06-07 (after they cracked down on steroids), and there was a very small decrease last year, which you can attribute to the recession.. I wouldn't be surprised if this year's numbers drop a little bit either, but again that's cuz of the economy.. Plus the 1st couple months of the season you're always gonna see more empty seats..

It's really too bad that baseball isn't a more fast paced game. It's never going to have the draw of other sports like football, basketball, etc. I used to love baseball as a kid, but now I've moved to watching mma, basketball, and even road cycling/triathlons (I think these are fun to watch, but most people don't). And, the steroids thing in baseball is, in my opinion, completely blown out of proportion. Congressional hearings, for chrissakes? Gimme a break.

there was a lot more going on after the strike that baseball needed to be exciting again. Think about it gear helped but there are many more things that were probably done to make it exciting again. Mostly conspiracy type thinking but for almost 100 years records start getting broken after a strike. Somethings up.

That's true but you won't see MLB back down on their stance. They're already too deep to get back out. The only way I EVER see them not taking such a tough stance, is if they somehow legalize steroids.

It'll never happen.

what are you talking about , baseball has had there best years recently in teh last few years, except last year but considering the recession they did fantastic last year, baseball overall popularity is skyrocketing probably more than any other major sport

Well, they should thank steroids.

Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa saved baseball during their famous chase for Roger Maris's single season homerun record, and from what we know, it seems very very likely (just saying it like that for the skeptics) that they both used steroids, so in effect, steroids saved baseball

I said years ago when all this started that the MLB was going to destroy themselves.

Actually in terms of numbers NHL is the one going down the toilet right now.Hardly any television and attendance is down. The NFL is seriously looking at a 2011 player lock out, they have a new head of the players union looking to go to battle with the owners when current contract runs out(2011).But,at the end of the day they all make billions don't kid yourselves.

Two points.

First, the recession has hit MLB hard. Especially in major markets like Boston in New York where they have consistently raised ticket prices. The prices are so high now for decent seats, even someone with a job has a hard time justifying the trip. Especially when there's high def broadcasts.

Second. Yes baseball was more exciting during the "steroid era" with records being broken left and right. But that excitement has waned considerably in light of the public knowledge of steroid abuse. Now, when the average spectator sees a home run, they chalk it up to steroids instead of pure natural talent. It creates quite a bit of cynicism. For example, my father in law comments on Ortiz' slump - oh he' probably off steroids, they should trade him. A hitter is going to hit regardless of steroids, since its primarily a mental/confidence battle, the steroids may only make the ball go a bit further.

for the millionth fucking time...STEROIDS DONT MAKE YOU THROW HARDER!

MMMMMMMMMMMMM??? I've seen guys add a couple mph s to their fastball. Not to mention velocity stays up mid to later innings. As posted above recovery is huge when in the rotatation ,especially key when closing back to back games.Offensively those warning track shots are now in the 10th row.Was real strange when you had 2nd basemen hitting 40 plus home runs.

The league also wanted to increase offense. If you don't remember they changed the ball and it was just jumping off the bat. Then after the whole steroid issues they backed off when they saw peoples reaction to the records being broken.

I'd rather watch collegiate women's softball. Fast paced and a few hotties.

I think MLB is pretty naive to think that what theyre doing is going to stop drug use in the sport. As long as there is a demand for the gear, there will always be supply. There will always be a guy willing to do whatever it takes to make that extra 5million, or make the lineup on a consistent basis. When millions upon millions are on the line for these guys, I think it is human nature to resort to whateevr means necessary. I wish MLB would just accept it somewhat like the NFL. You dont see a big fuss about much in the NFL because I think they just realize its a part of the game.

I think I have lost interest in the game since all these "scandals" because when I see baseball or think baseball the first thing that comes to mind is politics and scandals. Its hard to just enjoy the pure game because there is always someone being scrutinized or some controversy in the game.

if they make you throw harder then why did roger clemens average fastball dip 4-5 mph from age 25 to 40? they aid recovery and allow you to throw more innings without fatigue.

I agree that recovery and less fatigue is the main benefit.Roger pitched probably eight years longer than the average career of a MLB pitcher. He came into the league like every other young buck with a "rocket" no pun,lol trying to blow the ball past everybody and was successful. But with age and wisdom he developed better offspeed pitches and control. This allowed him to not have to be one dimensional(heat) and lengthened his career.
If you really want to scrutinize Rogers fastball history which has been done. His fastball took a big dip mid 90's then back up around 2000 which is a big part of the finger pointing and accusations.
In theory I can see the argument how gear or HGH wouldn't improve your fastball, but in real world experience I've seen it help. Thanks

Agreed that juice doesn't make a pitcher throw harder - it's all about finesse.. The best pitchers are usually guys of average stature.. Maybe tall, but almost always thin.. At Pedro Martinez's peak, he was SO dominant, and he was like 5'11", 160-170.. And the guy that alot of people say threw the fastest ever - Steve Dalkowski, was also 5'11" 170.. He's not well known since he only pitched in the minors cuz he wasn't that great and lacked control, but it's speculated that he had a 105-110 mph fastball.. There were no radar guns in his day so there's no proof, but alot of ppl say he was the fastest pitcher ever.

I will say that juice could help in recovery time and things like that, but that could also lead to injuries if the ligaments/tendons can't handle it.
