ideal bp ?

i had my blood pressure checked today. it is 137 over 68. i think the norm is around 120 over 80 so does anyone know what this would be considered? high bp or hypertension?

Some people would consider it pre-hypertension. I say your diastolic looks good, it could be that you were nervous about getting your BP checked. You need three consecutive BP of 140/90 or greater for a proper diagnosis of hypertension.

doctors used to say that 120/80 was standard, but in the past few years they have lowered what they call optimal to 120/70. someone with a bottom number of 80 is now believed to be showing early signs of hypertension.

Yeah, could be "white coat syndrome". Your diastolic is awesome. I think you were just a bit nervous. What did your doc say?
