Insulin

I've noticed my diabetic drugs are not controlling my sugar levels like they used to.

I've been looking into using insulin to help with this. My thinking is supplemental insulin should reduce the demands on my natural production.

However I haven't found anything on the net that lists typical dosages of the commonly available forms. Also, what types don't require a prescription?

My intent is to start with a low dose and use my BS meter to judge the effectiveness of treatment. and gradually increase the dose until my BS levels are in the normal range. However, without knowing what a normal dose is, how would I know what a low dose is?

I am looking into this for several reasons: no desire to make a pharma company rich by using drugs that are expensive, and ultimately dont help my pancreas any. Also, since insulin doesn't require a scrip, I don't have to make a doc rich either. (what does a doc do anyway? say "here take these expensive pills, and when we finally succeed in burning out your panceas completely, i'll put you on insulin")

Obviously this is something I don't take lightly so please, constructive criticism only.

If your a diabetic you need to talk to your doctor. If you insulin receptors arent responding then you will end up taking more and more insulin to get the same effect.

humilin R is non-prescription.start with 2-3ius with every meal.thats about a standard starting dose.now,depending on your meal, well you know.

I am aware of the effects of insulin resistance.

When I was first diagnosed the doc tried several drugs until one worked. The first was one for insulin resistance, didn't do a thing. A drug to decrease liver output was tried next, same result.

The next drug tried stomps on my pancreas and tells it to get off it's lazy ass and spit out some insulin. This worked very well. my BS dropped nearly 200 points in a couple of days. definitely kept me out of the hospital.

As I said this effect is slowly fading. So it seems supplementary insulin may be a good option for reducing the load on my natural production.

I think the problem is the insulin producing cells are dying off. And expecting the remaining ones to take up the slack all the time may be accelerating their demise.

I think I will start with 2-3 iu's at mealtime and monitor it closely.

Humalog is also available through canadian pharmacies no script. I think all the other insulin, R for sure, no non script in the us...

Which drugs are you taking now? Are you type 2? I take amaryl and actos. I've thought of a little slin next bulk cycle. I have talked to the doc, probably won't as I don't think he's super into bulking....
