How many of you incorporate isolation exercises into your routine? If so, what is your reasoning? I've noticed better improvements in my physique since limiting them. A very big guy told me that they are worthless because they don't activate enough fibers for the effort you put into them. What are everyone's thoughts and opinions?

I think that no matter what the goal multijoint movements are the best!! I have all my clients do them, and of course so I follow my own advice.. They burn more cals, they are harder, and of course they are fuctional... Once I took all the fluff mvments out of leg traininng i took my physique up a notch, (or atleast I think)....My name is Squat Ass, not ham curl ass..haha... Its kinda like all the fat chicks on the good girl bad girl machine.. They need to get there fat asses off that dumb machine and do some squats and lunges..
Sometimes single jt mvments are good for some rehab stuff, but if you can train hard then you should. (I do think that adding in some single jt stuff closer to show time or when dieting is a good idea b.c there is less fat to cover up those big muscles)

A BETTER QUESTION IS, WHAT HAVE YOU NOTICED SINCE DOING COMPOUND MOVEMENTS? ASKING THAT QUESTION ON HERE IS GOING TO CONFUSE YOU BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE ANSWERS YOU WILL GET. IF SOMEONE HAS DONE THIS FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND IS THE SIZE YOU WANT TO BE, WHY NOT JUST TRUST THAT ADVICE?

Im gonna go ahead and agree here. Since iv put more of my efforts into compounds and less on isolations, my physique is just lookin a whole lot thicker. Even coworkers are noticing. I saw someone the other day i havent seen in months, i happened to have my shirt off, and hes like damn bro what the fuck happend to you, you blew up. Thing is, my bodyweight has only gone up like 8lbs. I am a whole lot stronger though and i also think im lookin a lot thicker. Dont know the reasoning other than the muscle is handling heavier weights, but i like the results and im stickin with it.

I do trust that advice. I have seen my physique improve leaps and bounds since taking out the "fluff". I'm curious as to why bodybuilders as a whole feel that they must work every muscle from multiple angles. Why do people feel that doing crossovers is going to bring out "cuts" that bench won't? Just food for thought.

i DONT KNOW EITHER.

it seems to me that isolation exercises have their place...as part of a superset, or pre exhaustion etc...when i do bench press, i realize that my delts perform most of the exercise, as a result my delts are far more developed then my chest, since ive started using fly movements, cable flyes, and have seen more development in the chest...i never neglect the big exercises but i do find some isolation exercises useful
