I'VE THROWN IN LUNGES ON MY HAMSTRING DAY.

I KNOW THEY GET THE QUADS AS WELL...BUT HOLY SHIT I SURE GET AN AWESOME PUMP OUT OF THOSE THINGS. PLUS, THEY SURE AS HELL WORK MY HAMSTRINGS AND GLUTES HARD. i'VE BEEN DOING THE WALKING LUNGES UP AND DOWN THE HALLWAY OF THE GYM...I GO LATE, SO I AM NOT IN ANYONES WAY.

ANYONE ELSE LIKE THESE....OR AM I THE ONLY WUSSY HERE? LOL....:)

I used to do them when I was racing motorcycles. I'd go the length of the football field and back!

Xcel, that's a lot of lunging!

They seem to get my legs very well....just as good as anything else. I had not done them in some time. I think that was a mistake. I think they are great. I layed down on the hamcurl bench and my legs were so flippin' pumped I could only get two reps....before cramping all up! I had to do stiff deads and some calves before the legs settled down enough to get my hamstring curls done.

ARE YOU TELLING ME HE WASN'T USING THE 35LB DUMBELLS??

there is a member here that goes by immortal who does walking lunges with 405, pretty damn impressive...boy has some thick wheels.

THAT'S PRETTY INCREDIBLE! HOLY CRAP......YOU'VE SEEN HIM DO THOSE? I'LL BET HE'S GOT PRETTY DENSE MUSCULATURE ALL OVER TO MANAGE LUNGES WITH THAT MUCH WEIGHT. I AM JUST GETTING USED TO THEM AGAIN..BUT, I END UP ALL SHAKEY AFTER THREE TRIPS UP AND DOWN THE HALL. I DO 12-14 STEPS EACH LEG ON THE WAY UP AND ON THE WAY BACK. GORGED FULL OF BLOOD BY THE END!

TELL YOUR FRIEND I AM FREAKED OUT! [I NOW FEEL LIKE A TOTAL GEEK!]:)

He's a thick guy. He takes long periods off of training, he could be a beast if he trained and ate consistently. He comes on here every once in awhile, he, Jerrywear and I all trained at the same gym.

the most ive ever done lunging was 85lbs dumbells for 24 reps , i used to do them as well but realized squatts hit the entire leg alot harder , so for me its all squatts and thats it .

Lunges in Place or walking

Which is better walking lunges with no dumbells but a good length like a total of 50 yrds or lunging in place say on the smith machine?

Doing them in one place is best because with walking lunges you can hit cardio failure before muscle failure.:)

I am not sure but, I like using weight.

I just like the exercise....there is just something great about them. They are sort of like one legged squats. I get both legs very well and it's a different feel than I get with the barbell squat. [I won't replace squats with lunges as a mass builder...but I believe they are a very good exercise] That's just my opinion.:D

Jt

I did lunges last year for 3 months before the show and it was the best thing i ever did,my legs got biger.
so i know it does work, and i will start doing this again in a month.
so i am with you here

I agree, I love lunges year round. They really seem to bring out seperation in the quads and hams, and make my outer sweep more pronounced. I prefer reverse lunges in a smith personally

walking lunges

Ive been doing dumbell walking lunges for the last 6 weeks or so for two sets at the end of my whol;e leg session and i love them. I get so puped its untrue. Ive my first show in Sept which is why ive started them due to all the positives ive heard about them. Not to sure of what to fully expext from them as my legs get fairly separated quite easily. the down side is i need more mass and better/bigger hamstrings with great separtion. This is what im hoping to achieve.
Should i be doing more sets of these and with heavier weights. Im only using 45-50 pound dumbells at present as im so pumped from the squats, hacks and leg press.

i love the with dumbells at the end of the workout, i just walk as far as i can and dont count reps or anything. do you guys touch your knee all the way to the ground?

I do them at the end of my quad workouts and I kick my back leg up on a bench and use dumbells and make sure that I stay slow and controlled and tension in the hams/glutes through the whole movement while keeping my core stable. This excersise kills me everytime I do it and I have been doing them for every quad workout for the last two years it seems....lol

Edge, sometimes I count, other times I just go until I can't go anymore.. just depends on how I feel that day...

Yeah I love walking lunges. I have found that a barbell behind the neck is better than dumbells as the dumbell pull me over too much. The oly bar with two plates is about all I can handle. This is no KAKA, I saw Ronnie Coleman side step the oly bar with 4 plates per side out the back door of a gym in Arlington and commence to walk up and down the parking lot. I did not count the rep's but I bet it was close to 50.

...

I used to do barbell lunges until I discovered the joys of dbell lunges - too easy just to pick up a couple and get stuck in. I tend to do them on quad day but have done them on hams day. Really like em. Just don't go too hard and heavy before you've got your coordination cos you may twist a knee etc (minor chance but seen it). IronMike
