I never hear people mention Jay Cutler much.

especially when it comes to a true Mr Olympia.

its funny because he was at peak when I was in my 20s and breaking the ice.

its like i have swept him under the rug. I think of Dorian, Levrone, even the pumping iron generation.

But he is a true modern mass monster. His build and conditioning has probably been the most consistent and enduring of most.

and i dont know why, because i was reading the magazines when he was at his peak.

but i personally have a strange overlook of him.

i have been google-ing him for a few days and just have a solid respect for him.

what do you guys make of him overall, in the bodybuilding timeline?

where does Jay Cutler sit in your bodybuilding ideals.

"I gets no respect" ... Rodney Dangerfield

If it wasn't for the genetic anomaly Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler would of been one of the most decorated bodybuilders of all time.

I don't think he's overlooked at all. People mention him all the time. He's more likable in retirement and most still consider him the face of bodybuilding. Both him and Lee Haney were the best ambassadors for the sport.

He does a video series like Rich Piana used to do. Day in the life sort of stuff it’s watchable.

Personally not my favorite physique wise (like he gives a shit lol) but in my opinion one of the best ambassadors we've had.

His actual Mr Olympia physiques, yes I agree. But he himself has stated many times he preferred earlier looks as well but Ronnie pushed him to take things to that level, no other way to win.

He would have dominated the 2000s if Ronnie wasn’t around, his 2001 physique was incredible and SHOULD have won the Olympia.

Also I think it’s hard to say he is under looked, his name has never been bigger. Great ambassador and probably the most beloved bodybuilder of all time outside of Arnold.

he has a humbleness to him as well. hes not loud in that way.
not the hip hop flashy kind.

hes like a clean cut, square kinda
strictly business,

maybe thats why i perceive him without the impact he has had.

guy is amazing.

Exactly. He is far more popular now than he has ever been. I guess it will just depend where you are looking but he is all over social media and is mentioned all the time. Now as Swifto pointed out if it weren't for Ronnie he would have won so many O's. So in regards to his legacy in that regard he has been overshadowed in many ways. Meaning when guys list their fav ever O physiques he very rarely get mentioned especially because most automatically think of Ronnie, Dorian and Arnold etc. However in regards to overall bodybuilding ambassadors Jay, Lee and Arnold usually come first.

I have always been a huge fan of Jay's as an ambassador although his physique has never been in my top 10 favorites. I used to watch videos of him for motivation mainly because they were the only ones I had back in those days. I met him at a show in 2006 where he was guest posing and he was very personable. Great ambassador, but I do think something about his structure just didn't make him a guy people were in love with. I remember when Jay was Mr Olympia a training partner asked me who my favorite bodybuilders were and Flex Wheeler (all-time favorite look), Ronnie (best bber ever), Lee Haney (the best when I was a kid), and even Johnny Jackson (traps and thickness) Lee Priest (pre tats) and Bob Paris (perfect symmetry and streamlined look) came to mind before Jay. If asked today, Ramy and Phil would come before Jay as well in my mind.

I’ve always been team Ronnie but Jay blew me away in 09’

I would much prefer to listen to him on joe roman than Ronnie. Bodybuilding took a step backwards with that podcast. Jay is a brilliant ambassador for the sport.

Ronnie was great to look at and watch train when he was in his prime but everything else he does just makes bodybuilding and himself look stupid. I admire/love his drive and passion but he definitely isn't someone you want representing bodybuilding in mainstream media. He had major hip surgery and 2 weeks later is back in the gym training legs with horrible form. He blames his surgeons but he is the one who has done it to himself with stupidity. His social media is just full of cheesy plugs for his book (which he wouldn't have even wrote himself). Can you imagine if Joe Rogan wasn't even on Ronnie's side and actually tried to make him look bad. Jay is the complete opposite in many ways and does things with much more class. He promotes his products and companies in a normal way and goes about things in a nice way. He may not have had the nicest physique of the O champs but he was definitely a freak. Jay is definitely a great ambassador for bodybuilding. Lee Haney is just like Jay and he is another great ambassador and definitely someone executives would pick if trying to make bodybuilding look wholesome.

It's all bullshit though and whilst bodybuilding is full of great people we all know the real truth. It could never really be mainsteam and should be underground in most ways. So when we talk about great ambassadors we basically just mean someone who is nice, intelligent, successful and comes across as wholesome. At the same time though they know how to hide the truth. Ronnie hides the truth but he is also an idiot and says stupid things any successful bodybuilder should know is not true. None of these guys would really make a great podcast because they are too busy hiding the truth. Jay would never tell Joe Rogan the main reasons he was able to eat so many calories and maintain that condition was lbm, cardio, clean diet and the fact he took as much pharm grade hgh as he could afford.

That's why for me if I had to pick a successful bodybuilder to do a podcast it would be someone like Milos Sarcev. He is everything those others guys are (even more intelligent) but he is also honest about what bodybuilders really do and that is extremely rare in this industry. So it's a bit like to you want someone to be entertaining and honest or is it more entertaining and lie through their teeth because of some shit like wanting bodybuilding to be at the Olympics so we all pretend they don't do any drugs anymore or at most use steroids just in the final few weeks of prep as icing on the cake.

I've always admired how humble Jay is. Becoming Mr. Olympia didn't change him at all like it did Phil Heath, he's definitely a good face for bodybuilding.

It depends what you mean overlooked.
As far as physique goes, i would agree. I think people would throw Ronnie, Phil and Dorian ahead of him when it comes to FAVORITE freaky physiques of all time.

But in terms of OVERALL ambassador for the sport, he's top notch and probably at the top. Plus, he's done a fantastic job of staying relevant post Olympia time. He's puts out interesting videos, he creates good content, he has side businesses, he's just an overall nice guy. I met him at Gold's Venice a year or so ago and he was as nice as could be. Took the time to bullshit with me and everything. He'll go down as a true leader of the sport EVEN IF he wont be recognized as the best BBer ever.

Jay might not have the most sandows, but he won the sport of bodybuilding

It's safe to assume that a lot of the top guys weren't very smart with their money. Jay started investing in real estate at a very young age, kept his mouth shut about placings, just put his head down and worked.

The end result is one of the most likeable, looked up to, and respected professional bodybuilder in the industry today.

Anyone whos anyone knows who Jay is. He is the only person Ive ever met when i was speachless. He was my idol growing up. Everytime ive met him I can say anything its the craziest thing.

He is mentally tough and solid. Imagine coming in 2nd all those times. He didnt let it phase him. Kai gave up. Jay was like fuck it lets go. Jays the man in my opinion. My favorite of all time.

I was shocked and thrilled at how friendly he is. Met him at the Arnold Classic back around 06 or so. He was just standing there and I walked up to him and he started talking with me, like we were already friends. Kinda like me. I wasn't expecting that. Got my picture with him as we joked around, no charge! The big ass smile on my face was naturally there. All of the other big pros there were long lines and you had to shell out $$.

Big Jay C always brings a fun popularity to his appearances. Monster mass and I have admired Jay's improvements to his symmetry. He does remind me of the Classic California 70s era.

His video vlog released today he said he’s working on a business venture “in the cannabis industry”

He's in Vegas, medical and recreational is enormous there. Very smart move on his part, he's going to retire one wealthy dude. Very cutthroat business and takes a lot of capital to get started (if he's either talking about a dispensary or just getting a license to grow and dispense) but very rewarding. Fuck knows it's what I'd do if I had the l starting capital.

Also, has anyone ever heard Jay say where the fuck he found the fountain of youth? Dude looks amazing, closing in on 50 and looks like he's in his 30s. Fuckin genetic lottery winning motherfucker.
