Little help, High Cholesterol.....still.

Okay, so I got alot of great advice and did the following:

  1. added in 45 minutes of cardio 2x per week.
  2. dropped Lipitor.
  3. Added in 1.5 grams of niacin.
  4. Steel cut oats 1/4 cup 2x daily.
  5. 2 grams fish oil daily.
  6. Little red wine here and there, I hate drinking though.

drew blood last week and here's where my lipids came back at:

Total: 203
Triglycerides: 104
HDL: 30
LDL: 152
VLDL: 21

I had tested about 6 weeks ago and the numbers have hardly budged with the exception that my Triglycerides went up and my LDL came down about 8 pts. I'm not on any gear, so I'm a little dissappointed my numbers are not in range. Advice is really appreciated, anyone got any ideas?
 
Try Policosonal at 20mg daily.

Also, most of your cholesterol in your body is produced by your liver. The main enzyme that generates cholesterol production is HMGcoA reductase. Statin drugs like lipitor inhibit HMGcoA reductase therefore lowering cholesterol produced by the liver.

INSULIN greatly increases the production and activity of HMGcoA reductase. The more carbs you eat the more insulin your pancreas produces the more HMGcoA
reductase gets active the more your liver pumps out cholesterol.

Cutting our carbs to under 50 grams per day and subing those lost calories with protein and heart healthy fats will make a big, big difference.
 
Two supplements that I swear by are Res-Q fish oil and LDL x2 by the same company. I also dropped all wheat, dairy(except butter),pork and most sugar from my diet. My cholesterol went down 40pts in 2 months. The funny thing is that I eat 1-2 dozen whole eggs/wk fries in butter. I eat lots of beef, chicken and turkey and get my carbs mainly from brown rice, oats and quinoa. I also eat pineapple, bananas and blueberries. For protein shakes I use Gemma Protein Isolate except for post-workout where I use WPI.

Bottom line is that you have to eat foods that suit you and everything else will fall into place. Don't get too freaked out about your cholesterol, I've seen a lot worse.

the fact that u dropped lipitor and are at the same point is good to know on some level, shows u dont need prescription drugs
 
increase ur fish oil and look into posts by MassiveG about vitamin d
