Looks like black and red marker lower hemoglobin .

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/27548190/

Black maca and, in smaller proportions, red maca reduced hemoglobin levels only in highlanders with abnormally high hemoglobin levels; neither variety of maca reduced hemoglobin levels in lowlanders.

It says only in hi landers not in low landers but I assume that’s because your average low lander doesn’t have high hemoglobin to begin with.

....... did I miss something? It just say it lowered it, is that .0000001% on the mean of the study. Also it was test were done on high altitude test subjects don’t quote me but high attitude induced hemo is different the performance enhanced induced hemo????

I’m Not being rude please don’t take it that way as hematology is so complexed I really have no credibility contributing to the topic.

Hi landers have very high Hematocrits. 60+ If something lowers their hematocrit why wouldn’t it work AAS induced hi hematocrit? It would be nice if they performed the study on testosterone replacement or anabolic‘s but generally anything that lowers hematocrit should lower it for everyone. Phlebotomies also reduce hematocrit for Hi landers as well as anyone else. I agree though hematology is complicated.

In the full article Black Maca did show a 1 point decrease in Hemoglobin though. That’s pretty significant for a Hemoglobin measurement as a phlebotomy usually yeilds 1-3 points.

Good info. I got some recently because I feared I had adrenal fatigue.

Good info. I got some recently because I feared I had adrenal fatigue.

I am trying it out as well for fatigue to see if I get energy from it’s balance of cortisol and ACTH. A couple interesting herbs that act as stimulants from dopamine that I want to try next as well are Babchi and catuaba. Fatigue can come from so many causes it’s frustrating. I would also suggest getting your neurosteroids tested. There has to be a proper balance of cortisol, DHEA, progesterone and pregnenolone. HRT can throw them all out of whack. Unfortunately just supplementing with them isn’t enough without blood work.

Link to the full study:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5039502/

Red Maca, High Altitude Group, over 12 weeks:

Hemoglobin decreased from 18.21 --> 17.38

Black Maca, High Altitude Group, over 12 weeks:

Hemoglobin decreased from 18.21 --> 17.38

Placebo Group's Hemoglobin increased over the 12 weeks.

The rate of decline in the Red and Black Maca groups diminished as the study went on. Most of the hemoglobin decease was seen in the first 4-8 weeks of the 12 week study.

Subjects took 3g of either Red or Black Maca daily.
