Moving to New Orleans

I will be relocating for a job opportunity soon. Most likely in the Metairie area. Anyone around there? I wil be heading out there in a couple weeks to find a place to live.

you will love it!

I lived there for a while. One of my favorite cities. Metairie is nice but relatively boring. Most families live in metairie whereas New Orleans (Orleans Parish) is more the place to be. If i were you I would look for a place to live Uptown. Great neighborhoods and only minutes away from the center of the city where all the action is. Not particularly expensive either. Plus Loyola and Tulane University are right near by. Tons of gorgeous babes and tons of bars and cool places to eat and hang out.

In terms of a gym to work out at, your best bet is the French Riviera Spa. Its a chain of 3 gyms in the greater NOLA area, that has very decent equipment and it only costs about 20 bucks a month. The one in Matairie is right on Veterans Blvd and is also the biggest of them all. Also has the most babes

The one in Kenner is on Williams Blvd. Nice but very preppy if you ask me and more like a fitness center than a gym. If you were to move uptown I would go to the gym on Earheart Blvd. Its small but its the closest you are probably going to find to an actual "gym". Its mostly a big weight room with a few cardio machines.

Any other questions just ask or PM me. You will love the food, the chicks and the general atomsphere. Its very different to any other place you have probably been to though, so you might need a bit of time to get used to it.

I'm bout 20-30 min out of Metairie on the north shore , I work in NO East though.

not a bad place , curently ranked as the murder capitol of the US but thats generalu localized not wide spread , Metairie is a nice , far enough out to not be high crime but still close enough to be fun

I have a rental house on Metairie Court which is off of old metairie road. It is a 2 family shotgun. I will find out if it will be available if you would like.

I live in new orleans. Check out St. Charles Athletic Club uptown if you are into powerlifting and training heavy. The rest of the gyms tend to have alot of d-bags.

French is probably your best bet. They have at least 4 of them within a 20 mile radius of Metairie and that includes the main one in Metairie. Once a member you can frequent any one of them. Nice equipment.

lived in New Orleans for several years... loved it. I second living in the Uptown or Garden District area.

French cant hold a candle to St. Charles Athletic Club. I am a member of both and if you are serious about bodybuilding or powerlifting St. Charles Athletic has superior equipment such as a glute ham raise, reverse hyper, every bar imaginable for squats, a deadlift platform, chalk chains, bands, kettle bells... ect. Check both out but french has none of this.

I live in Metairie and have my whole life,...what do you want to know?

Unlike one poster, I would not live in the city itself, Orleans Parish, but would prefer Jefferson Parish; Metairie.

There are more bars than you you imagine, many that don't even open until midnight. Bars don't close and you can get whatever you want to drink, whenever you want. How about a drive though drinking establishment? We have them.

Ask away.

If you are going to live in metairie the St. Charles athletic Club is too far unless you work in the City and work out before Coming Home. Its also quite à Bit more expensive.....

Question about the areas:

From Chalmette is there a bridge at the end of Paris Rd that crosses the river or is that a ferry? I will be working on the Chalmette side but would like to stay on the other side of the river but stll close to the jobsite.

I-510 crosses the industrial canal via a bridge that leads into "Da Parish" (I'm looking at it right now), probably a 20-45 min drive (depending on traffic) from Matairie just about all interstate.

I'm a little biased but if your gonna work in St Bernard the North Shore would be a good place to live , would keep you from having to drive accross the city through traffic , one dumb ass can tripple your commute and their are thousands of them on the road!!

Nope it is levee construction (flood walls)
