Mr. Olympia 2006

I may end up regretting this after reading the write-ups about the 2005 contest.

But I'm thinking of going to the 2006 Mr. Olympia with a couple of friends.

It's been a while since I last went to Vegas (1997 in fact for my honeymoon), but could some of you guys point me in the direction of the best and closest hotels to where the shows are being held?

I know this is also a silly question, but I'm also guessing a car in Vegas is definately needed?

The actual show is being held at the Orleans, but the expo is way over at the convention center. You'll either need a taxi or a rental car to get from one place to the other.

for good room rates i like Gold Coast...it's on Flamingo Ave...

Think twice before going. I had attended 6 previous Olympias at Manadalay Bay and they were great, awesome hotel with expo right on hotel site.

Last year went to 2 star hotel, Orleans, a smokers-laden fleabag with
cafeteria food, venue for show was ok, transportation to expo all screwed up, no way in hell I'm going this year.

Shame. Used to be a great event!

Go To Olympia, you will have a blast.

I went in 2003, stayed for a week when it was held at Mandalay Bay. I stayed at the Luxor which is basically connected to mandalay bay, we walked to the Mr O. You don't need a rental car if you don't mind being on your feet. Their is so much in vegas in walking distance to do. I had a great time their, make sure you go to events the previous days. You will see a lot of names wandering around days before the show, I ran into Dorian Yates, Chris Cormier, Nasser, and Charles Glass at random spots in vegas.

Here's a pic of me with Charles Glass, ran into him on my way to my hotels gym. The guy really know's his stuff, I was 20 here.

I was there in 2003 one thing I remember was there was a Maralin manson concert the olympia and the PBR rodeo going on at the same time what an interesting mix of people!

Give It A Miss

I might give it a miss this year then, until they clean up their act and put on a better show than they did last year.

Another option for me is to catch a decent fight in Las Vegas.

Is it too early to look a fights towards the back end of this year?

Either boxing or I have gotten quite interested in the UFC.

Any ideas?

I'm going to pass on the Mr.O until they get the event re-organized. I think the next time I hit Vegas will be to see a UFC fight.

Yeah I would have to say the MR. O should all be in one spot...

Instead of having to take a shuttle or taxi a couple miles to the EXPO then cruise back the ORLEANS for the shows...

you do not need a car...TAXIS are good, and tons of them. Plus if you are driving the strip, itis a pain in the ass to drive when there are a million people walking the strip.

I would say stay at the ORLEANS, take a taxi to the strip at night, and shuttle to the EXPO.

last year we got a car for $17 a day on priceline.com....taxi's are $20-$30 from the airport and $10-$15 where ever you go, the car easily paid for itself, parking is free at all casinos and if you don't drive on the main strip you can get around easily...I highly recommend one

we too were disappointed that the O was at the Orleans, it is a dump....stayed at Mandalay Bay the prior 3 years...we stayed elsewhere and drove to the orleans..still had a good time
