You guys think they should split the Olympia over 200lbs and under 200lbs...then the overall between the two winners..Sometimes I think they should do that...but maybe thats cuz I am a smaller guy so I am bias..Just a thought...

I think if any sport deserves weight classes it's BodyBuilding. I would make several if I had my choice, perhaps every 20 lbs or so

Agreed! The Olympia isn't really fair in that you have guys who are around 200lbs competing against guys who are near 300lbs... You can't really compare the two physiques because they are completely different... One has better lines and symmetry while the other has just an incredible amount of mass... Therefore I agree with you Hutch that there should be two different weight classes... However, I say it should be 240lbs and under and 240lbs and over... Then let the winners of both compete for the overall... At least it would give the smaller guys a fighting chance...

bump this.
every 20-25 lbs. it is not fair for the smaller guys that look great, just smaller frames!

they should, guys like Ronnie Rockel get screwed.

I think the under 200 lb Class it would be Dave Henry hands down right now.

I know he competes at what like 204? He could easily get under 200 and destroy everyone :)

I like Jwill's idea like every 20 lbs.

If they would incorporate this there would not be anymore of the " well if he was 4" taller BS"

in moving with the times it should be under 225 and over . I really dont know many pro's who are under 200p . I know people can name a few but there are many more if it was under 225 .

I sort of like things the way they are. I think if you split them up then you would see them split in height too. You just can't have a 6 ft. guy that looks really dense at under 200lbs. Not to mention the current setup hasn't stopped Lee Preist from doing well. That's just my opinion of course.

Absolutely...

Well' this thought must be getting into the heads of those who call the shots, considering that the Europa is holding an IFBB 210lbs. weight class on Friday night before the main show which is sat. Let's hope attendance is good so that maybe we'll see a split in future shows. 200lbs. just isn't as realistic as it was in the Franco days. Athletes have evolved and actually have legs these days. LOL. It's a great idea. No, the short guys do not stand a chance in the "O".
LittleMac, I've not seen a smaller guy, including Lee Preist break the top five in the "O". Lee has won the Australia and the Ironman (which is known for having smaller competitors). He hasn't won a show with competitors like Ronnie and Jay. Although, I've seen some crazy math done and if Lee was streched out to Jay or Ronnies height and carried at the same weight he'd have 30 inch arms. In other words he is pound for pound the largest man on the IFBB stage for his frame. He'll never come close to beating Ronnie or Jay. Especially with his rebellion against the IFBB.

I just think that it would really help to get a lot of the smaller or shorter guys more exposure...definetly make things more exciting also...

I like the 210 and under or 225 and under class..even doing Npc style weight classes would be cool and would allow the lower weight class winners at nationals to actually use their pro card...It would be cool to see guys like Jimmy Canyon and Garret Alin and Stan Mcquay and the future peter putnam battle it out....

i think we would see less guys destroying there physiques trying to play the size game, they would be healthier, more symmetrical, and i feel bodybuilding would be much more competitive because of it. i couldnt imagine winning nationals as a middleweight or lightheavy, your pretty much done competitively unless you wanna add another 30lbs or more and thats where i think the problems begin...........higher and higher doseages, insulin. 30lbs later they now have the size but look like total shit compared to when they first won there pro card and there liver, kidneys and heart are screaming for mercy. no one wins in the end.

good points...

How about...

200lbs and under

201 to 225lbs

226lbs and over...

You could probably have a 250lbs and over but I think 3 classes would be good enough...

I agree, I think 225 under and over. Cause in the under 225 you would have guys like lee priest, dave henry, maybe troy alves, and johny jackson. Then winners could face off.

I think the heavier class winner would take the overall everytime though

it stinks when great bbers dont have a chance . Stan Mcquay just earnd a pro card ,and for what . I couldnt even think of him cracking the top ten in anything without laughing ;really the only way for him to win a major show is for no one else to show up . thats plain wrong ,oh well we asked for freaks for years and we got them .

EXCELLENT POINTS.

I'D LIKE TO SEE IT BROKEN DOWN INTO A HEIGHT CLASS OR WEIGHT CLASS WINNER....THEN HAVE THEM COMPETE FOR THAT REASON. I THINK OF GUYS LIKE AHMAD HADIR AND I LIKE TO SEE HIM DO WELL. LET THE LOWER WEIGHT GUYS BRING THEIR PLEASING PHYSIQUES AGAINST THE HEAVIER PHYSIQUE OF THE TALLER GUYS THAT WHILE SOMETIMES MORE MASSIVE AREN'T ALWAYS BETTER TO LOOK AT ON STAGE.....I THINK ,DEPENDING ON THE JUDGING ,THE BIGGER GUY WOULDN'T ALWAYS WIN.

A GUY LIKE FRANK ZANE OR SHAWN RAY WOULD HAVE A REAL CHANCE TO WIN. PLUS, IT WOULD MAKE BORING CONTESTS A LOT MORE EXCITING FOR THE AUDIENCE.

I strongly concur.

I brought this up a while back. :) I absolutly think there should be weight classes. I don't see why there isn't why force so much extra mass on a small frame it always ends up scaraficing the narrow waist. There is weight classes all the way up to the big show and people earn pro cards as light heavies etc so why not. I think a lot more woman might be brought back to BB if there was a weight class etc. at the heights level for the same reasons.
