Ok, so we all wanna be tan clearly. Now, I only tan at the booth 1x per week b/c I dont wanna get skin cancer down the road. Now, I see thousands of people are using Mt2 and loving the results. Its cheap and seems to work but its fairly new. For anyone who's studied the compound and knows about it, is there any long term sides that could be a possiblity? Like cancer?

^^^ I can definately say thats NOT the answer I was looking for.

And when you say "here" did you mean your home with 16posts and a join date of 4/09 or did you mean your fathers home with a join date of 06 and over 3k posts? Just curious.

Ironically the only long term effect ive heard of is skin cancer, m1 is still in clinical trials if i heard right

dont ask here ask your doctor

I highly doubt many doctors would even kno what MT2 is, let alone any negative effects of it.. And if you started to explain to them where you could order it from and how you'd administer it, they'd definitely discourage you from doing it, not knowing anything about it..

Hmmmmm so I guess many are using it but have no clue about its long term sided. I guess i'll just wait and tan at the stupid booth for now on.

I read through a bunch of studies t and it looks like at the moment the research says it can help prevent skin cancer(melanoma development) if you never had it before, but this studies shows that if you did, it has not yet been determined.

alpha-Melanocyte-stimulating hormone-induced eruptive nevi.
Cardones AR, Grichnik JM.

Department of Dermatology, University of Miami Health System, University of Miami Hospital and Clinics/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Melanoma Program, 1475 NW 12th Ave, Location D-1, Miami, FL 33136, USA.

BACKGROUND: Synthetic peptides that target proopiomelanocortin receptors are being investigated as a novel and safe way to tan. It has been postulated that synthetic alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) peptides may have protective effects against the development of melanoma because of their melanogenic activity. Their ultimate biological effect, however, especially in patients with dysplastic nevi or previous melanoma, has yet to be determined. OBSERVATIONS: A 40-year-old white man with a history of melanoma and multiple dysplastic nevi self-administered synthetic alpha-MSH. He developed crops of new pigmented nevi, many of which had atypical clinical and histopathologic features. The preexisting nevi became darker and acquired growth features. After alpha-MSH use was discontinued, the nevi progressively lightened and lost their growth features. CONCLUSIONS: Synthetic alpha-MSH peptides can drive proliferation of neoplastic melanocytic cells in predisposed patients. This could present an increased risk for melanoma development.

Im no doctor or scientist..so I cant speak for that. But from my own experiences and others it has been proven of course to substantially darken your skin with minimal or no tanning. Which I guess is supposed to be what helps prevent skin cancer in fairer colored skin types like myself. Which brings me to ask this question, do people of african decent or with darkass skin naturally tend to get skin cancer? Or is it more of a northern european decent issue.

They're less likely to, but they can definitely still get it.. And when they do get it, it's usually not diagnosed until it's in advanced stages.. I think the sunblock and skin cancer shit is over-hyped.. Humans have been around for the past 100,000 yrs living outside, and are designed to be in the sun.. So how is it that sunlight is all of a sudden deemed evil, and high SPF sunblock a necessity? It's just that something else has been going on in the recent past, that causes people to be at increased risk for all these cancers.. And the fact that black people can still get skin cancer shows this, because the increased melanin in their skin is like a natural sunblock.. It's some other factor that deems certain people more susceptible to get cancer.

Well they say its because of global warming and the greenhouse effect

What scares me about this product is its lack of studies and time being on the market. Seems like something that can permanently change the pigment of your skin could also come with some hefty sides down the road.

try melanotan.org there's a lot of info their. and its does not change your skin permanently you loose your tan within weeks after stopping use. and you'll find the FDA will never approve this because the way it is taken injected.it was invented buy the university of arizona as a way to prevent skin cancer.it stops you from burning which is how the damage occurs.

One of my close friends is a dermatologist and I asked him about it. Like others posted, its still in early stages BUT he said that it does increase the growth of moles on the skin and can make existing moles larger. These oftentimes go away after discontinued use but in the meantime it revs up melanocyte production. Those new moles can be cancerous if youre predisposed to skin cancer as Dragonfire posted.

He advised to stay away until long term effects can be hashed out. Hit the spray instead.

That's exactly why I'm not using it anymore. I have what appear to be permanent, large freckles on my body - even in places with no sun exposure -since using Melanotan. My tan faded; these did not. Until more safety data is available, I'm on the sidelines.

Best,
Monte

Fuck, thats crazy. You should go to a dermo to get them checked out.

Actually MT I has been around for 20 years. MTII has been around allot less time. I've been on MTII for over 18 months straight, no hideous extra moles or growths. Now some of the small moles that I do have got darker.

But I was a type 1 skin type, white skin, red hair, burns never tans.
After loading up with 40mg of MTII I can swim for 2 hours with no burn, before I was lucky to do 15-20 minutes.
I still use sun block to avoid serious sun damage. But my skin has a natural spf to it now that it did not before.
For people like me going out in the sun is something that is always on your mind as a type 1. You have to plan your activities around it, you have to wear a shirt while everyone else is not. Swimming is something you have to do with a ton of sun block and a t-shirt, and even then you get burned on your face and slightly on the arms.

MTII has really helped many, many people. I have no ill side effects from it even on long exposure. I see my doc regularly along with the skin doc. That is just common sense even if your not on MTII. MTII very much has it's legitimate usage. Just like steroids have allot of stereotypes and rumors, so does MTII. Mis-information hurts allot of users.

I'd love to use this stuff all the time instead of tanning which I hate so much. To me tanning is such a chore! But I stopped it because of all the extra freckles I was getting from it, like on my face and they are very dark and never went away. If it wasn't for that very side effect I'd be using it all the time. As I can see it being much safer and convenient than tanning. IS there any way to prevent that side because if there is I'd be back to buying MTII in a heart beat.

Humans have been around for the past 100,000 yrs living outside, and are designed to be in the sun..

Until very recently (last few hundred years), the average lifespan for a human was around 30-40 years. There are very few cancer cases in that sort of time span. Reproduce and die is a very effective evolutionary strategy anyhow.
