Well they finally ruled it to bells palsy. He basically just woke up last week with his right eye totally sunken down and right side of his mouth sunken down. I just saw him today for the first time since it happened and it was so sad. You can tell he is self contious about it. He's very health and 61years old. They did an MRA,MRI,and tons of other tests and diagnosed Bells Palsy. They said it comes from stress. The good news is he has an %85 chance of his face returning back to normal after about 3-6months. Anyone have expierence with this. Anything he can do or take in the mean time to help his chances? Im presuming just to keep his immune system super high. He's on hrt(125mg cyp/wk and 1.25iu's GH daily) I figure maybe he should drop the GH.

dam fourth, im sorry to hear that man. i know nothing about bells palsy, but i wish him the best.

sorry that's happened. Hopefully he can recover like you said he has a chance to..

Doctors may prescribe anti-inflammatory and anti-viral drugs. Early treatment is necessary for the drug therapy to have effect. The effect of treatment is still controversial. Most people recover spontaneously and achieve near-normal to normal functions. Many show signs of improvement as early as 10 days after the onset, even without treatment.

^^^ Yah he was given predisone I believe at first. Now he's on nothing. He had shingles a few times a while back, im sure they probably relate.

My mom had a case of this 5 years ago (she was 51 at the time), it was VERY noticeable at first, much like you described, looked as if she had had a stroke but only had the effects in her face. She followed the doctor’s instructions to a tee and seriously within 2 weeks you would not have noticed unless you knew and within a month it was impossible to tell. She has not had this happen again since. I don’t know if she has had any long-term medication or anything but in general is / has not been in the greatest of health (Blood pressure, thyroid, etc…) for a long time stemming from her being obese since her twenties…

Hopefully your father has an equally successful recovery.

Sorry to hear ... I hope he recovers from this...Sounds like most people do...

My best friends mom back in the day had the same thing happen. she just woke up one morning and half her face wouldn't work.
She made a full recovery

My sister in law had this some years ago and was completely recovered in several months.

My thoughts go out to your family. Most recover within several months once the inflammation affecting the facial nerves subside. You and your Dad will be laughing about this in a year. Keep your head up.

A friend of mine back in the day got bells palsy after his father was murdered.....looked really bad too.

Good news though.....full recovery in about 2 months though. It rarely sticks around permanently.

He's in my prayers bro....

It's actually more common than most people think and it varies in severity and age range.

Have a good friend who's had a mild form for the most of his life and you wouldn't really suspect anything other than the fact he can't smile fully.

Celebrities such as George Clooney have suffered from this as well and recovered quickly.

Best of luck to your Dad and a quick recovery.

Its a nerve condition of unknown etiology. Go see if a chiro is warranted. May help, and then again it may not. But you won't know til you try.

Ive treated it a few times....

Usually a full recovery. It is a pain in the ass at first. But Like i said all people ive treated fully recovered. Steroids to decrease nerve inflamation. It will subside.:)

I had it after shingles 4 years ago. They put me on prednisone and anti-virals immediately. After 2 weeks you could barely notice I had it.
Best wishes to your dad for a speedy recovery.

If you were ever a wrestling fan, Jim Ross the announcer suffers from this, never fully recovered.

fourhtgen, I wouldn't be TOO concerned...the majority of bells palsy cases return to normal. It's still rather strange though, and the jury is out as to exactly which mechanism this operates through.

My dads worried cuz he immediately went on the predisone and its been about a week since he's been off it and he said he doesnt notice much of a change at all except he can shut his eye a little better. His right eye stays open 24/7 and the dr gave him drops he has to use all day. Im presuming a week is too early, hopefully he's not the rare %15 who doesnt recover. So anything he can take in the meantime? The dr. didnt really tell him much but to ride it out. If its inflammation isnt there something he should do?
