Thursday morning I was doing BB shrugs, got some tightness, nothin that had to stop my workout. Continued to work back and do DB shrugs. Then Friday did delts no problem. But mid-day Friday my neck was getting tight and I noticed I had trouble turning it. Saturday and Sunday morning I wake up can barley move it. Have been doing light stretching and using a heating pad and it gets better as the day goes on, but when I wake up it feels so tight its a chore to even lift my head.

Any idea if its just some tightness, a strain, or something worse like a disk? I have had a similar thing happen in my back but always healed it by heating it, light stretching, vs using cold and resting it which seemed to make it tighten up more. Active recovery vs RICE for a strain which IMO is more painful and a different feeling than tightness.

Thoughts? Anyone ever had a really stiff neck for 4 + days?
 
I have, if you didn’t actually injure it while lifting more than likely it’s a strain or a nerve. Stretching ibuprofen and heat. if it doesn’t resolve within a few days I’d see a PT. Can’t tell without an MRI for a disc. I am dealing with a herniated disc right now actually in my lower back and it took me a month to finally go see a doctor and I couldn’t even tell when it actually happened so 🤷🏻‍♂️ Take it easy and if it gets worse see a professional
 
I have 4 bulging discs in my neck from a nasty car crash. It doesn’t sound like a cervical issue. You’d be experiencing pains down your shoulders and arms. At least that’s what happens to me.. Sound more like a strain.

I'm a PM&R physician. If no pain, numbness, tingling radiating down the arm; and mostly localized to neck/trapzeius—it's a minor strain.
 
Thanks for the replies. Any advice on a strain? Heat and active strtches seem to be working well it loosens up a bit during day. But in the am, I feel paralyzed trying to lift my head after waking, need to use my hand lol.
