Anyone know of any Bodybuilders where the following happened and their successs with this? Yesterday in teh gym I was doing Military Presses. I had warmed up well as always. Nothing out of the norm was going on with my elbows or triceps. After the 4th rep I was trying to squeeze out another rep and the I heard a loud POP and then lost all strength in my left arm. Within 5 mins I had what looked like a tennis balls attached to my elbow (from the swelling). The Gym called 911 and they iced my tricep and rushed me to ER. I have an appt on Monday with a well known Orthopedic Surgeon; The ER doctor was sure I would have to have my tri tendon surgically reattached to my elbow. I dont' want to give up working out. Of course as you all can imagine I am very depressed. I had a Master's contest planned for this Sept. Does anyone know of any BBer that this has happened. I guess I want to know what my prognosis is for Bodybuilding. I can keep working out legs and my right side, but I am up to 250 and was gaining mass very quickly and now don't know if I should just try to cut up and get super defined abs for the summer or what.
Any advice or suggestions my Bros on here can give will really be greatly apprecaited. To say the least, I am very depressed about all of this.....

Thanks, Bros

Mike

...

yates tore his tricep but i dont think it detached. if im not mistaken anthoney darezzo a super heavy nationals compeditor from r.i. tore his tricep, had surgery and got back to trainig and was up to 300 lb in no time. it depends on the person i think. doctors arent always right. just do what you can. the wrestler dave batista just tore his and he is rehabbing it now. but im sure you could over come it if you tried, just maybe you cant train as heavy anymore.

PM her and ask her what is up...

I know she has been in a sling and taking it easy just doing cardio to keep her sanity.

HRT.... some androgens docs prescribe to increase connective tissue growth is nandrolone, boldenone, and hGH. Many have outstanding potential for connective tissue regeneration and muscle healing at a faster rate. ;)

also inflammation is not always a bad thing it means that ur body is trying to heal, unless u have some immobile joint then I would ice it. Keep it rested after surgery but myself I would still b in the gym even when the doc says no.... but then Im not a bright one either

Friend of mine had this happen back in late July. Completely detached. Trained right up to the surgery and was back to the gym in a sling just days after, training whatever he could with one arm. He is back at it full boar now and training for a Masters show. Looks none the worse for wear and if he didn't tell you you would never guess he had surgery (scarring is very minimal). I think it is important to keep training what you can to prevent or at least combat atrophy and follow some HRT as gooey advised to promote healing.

If you remember Dorians injury they had pics of him in the gym training in a sling. Branch also suffered a tricep tear last year and seems to have recovered quite nicely. Not sure exactly what the extent of their injuries were...but its encouraging nonetheless.

I feel your pain. Let us know what doc says.

Definitly get it taken care of as soon as possible. I waited too long
on my bicep. even though it was a small tear, Doc. said it was too late
to do anything worth while.

Thanks buds,
That gives me encouragement to know that it has happened to some top Bodybuilders. I have a feeling I'll have surgery next week, but I have already decided to go to the gym tomorrow and work legs and my right side. I think I'd go crazy if I didn't :)

I'll let you all know what my Ortho says on Monday. Man, I never thought this would happen to me (famous last words LOL)....

Speedy Recovery

Hey bro,

Speedy recovery to you man.

I'm curious how heavy you were going? Did you have a spotter? What was your range of motion like and how fast were your reps?

I think answers to these questions would give us all an idea as to how exactly you managed to do this and how to avoid it.

man, this is what still perplexes me. I was only doing Smith Machine seated Military Presses with two 45's on each side of the Olympic bar. This isn't even my max weight for presses. I very slowly as always did 3 reps and I couldn't get the 4th rep all the way up and I was determined to complete it. That is when I finally hear a pop and then tearing sound. No spotter but the Smith machine saved me from dropping the weights. I have been on Test Enan for a while and hope that it had nothing to do with the injury.

thanks for asking.......

Mike

sorry to hear that bro

bro I detached my tricep in 91 took six months for a full recovery and i came back 110% any questions give me a shout. get better

Hey HP!

Sorry to hear of your Tricep detachment! Ouch ! Hope your spirits are not too down and that the Doc’s have promising news for you!

NW

Tricept tear.

You need to contact a good surgen as soon as possible, surgery is most sucessful within 72 hrs. of injury of tricept or bicept. If it is a detachment of the tendon then you have a better chance of recovery. Sorry this happened,I tore my pec on Dec. 27 th. and had surgery Jan. 5th.So far so good but it is slow going, just now using rubber bands in upper body exercise.

Good Luck to you.

Sorry to hear about your injury. :( I hope they can repair it back to normal.

YEP, SURGURY ASAP...DON'T DINK AROUND.

I HAD MY BICEP REPARED 12 HOURS AFTER I TORE IT....IT'S BETTER THAN THE NORMAL ONE.

VINCE TAYLOR TORE HIS TRICEP AND HE LOOKS FINE. [HE ALSO TORE A BICEP AT ONE TIME IF I RECALL CORRECTLY!]

KEEP TRAINING THE OTHER SIDE...THE BODY LIKES TO BE SYMETRICAL....IF YOU KEEP WORKING THE UNINJURED SIDE YOU BODY ATTEMPTS TO RETAIN BILATERAL SYMETRY.....ONCE YOU BEGIN TRAINING YOUR REPAIRED LIMB IT WILL BOUNCE BACK FASTER....

YOU'LL BE FINE UNLESS SOMETHING WEIRD HAPPENS.....THAT'S MY EXPERIENCE....I WON OUR STATE POWERLIFING MEET AFTER TEARING MINE....YEARS LATER OF COURSE. BUT....SHIT MAN...HIT THOSE WHEELS! LOL..

Mike,

Damn - I'm perplexed too. Ok, more questions, if you have time:

- How often do you train the military press?

- How often do you train triceps?

- Was that your first exercise, last, or somewhere in the middle?

I can relate to this story of not knowing why this happened with my experience.

I work the pulldown machine very heavy - 300 pd stack plus a 45 and a 35. Controlled reps, middle range down to chest and back up again. 6 - 8 reps. I used to do this once a week with a full warmup.

Well, everything was going fine for over a year. Then on my WARMUP SET of wide grip pullups (which I do very perfectly and without pedaling my way up like I see some people do) I pulled myself up.

Something moved or "tweaked" in the part of the bicep that connects to your shoulder, beneath my right armpit. No pain, just felt something funny. Like something moved. That's the best I could describe it.

Fine. Knowing this I warmed up even more on the pulldowns. Added a 35 to the stack.

Pulled down, and I heard an audible CRUNCH in the same area I described above - beneath my right armpit. No pain. Foolish, I do ANOTHER REP. Another crunch. I lower it down. I ask a guy next to me if he heard what I heard. "Nope" he says, and walks away.

Ooooo k.

I even did seated rows after this, but I knew I had to end the workout.

When I got home and checked out my bicep, it looked as if it was stretched out out a bit. Some brusing like I got punched, minimal swelling. A bit of pain, but manageable.

Anyway, the point of me telling you this is that nothing precipitated the pain nore the crunch I heard. There was absolutely NO warning sign.

But what I figured is that I was going way too heavy WAAAY too often on the back movements, especially pulldowns. I guess after a while something has to give, and in this case it was the bicep tendon.

I now stretch religiously, have changed my methods to a sort of DC / Hernon hybrid (train as often as possible, strething, rest pause, 3 sets per bodypart, etc) and so far things are feeling great. (No soreness either)

Just thought I'd relate that story. But my thought is that maybe you go a little crazy with your Chest / Delt pressing movements a little too often. Does that sound right?

Hit the Deca after surgery. Really helped me come back from a dibilitating shoulder injury. Good as new and have been for over two years now.

You guys are great! This is the only board that I am active on any longer and its because of the personalities that are on this Board. Thanks for your words of encouragement. I have an appt with my Ortho Surgeon at 9:50am Monday morning. Will take it from there. I was very depressed about this ending my bodybuilding aspirations, but thanks for your posts and emails I now feel that there is still some hope.

Thanks again, buds!
Mike
