New Bloodwork - High Ferritin??

Welsh is Celtic; high rates of haemachromatosis.

Did he schedule a follow-up in 6 mo or a year for another round before this starts to slap him in the face?

It's early, you're not likely to suffer any actual kidney or organ damage yet, and the levels are not yet alarming believe it or not; but you should record these interactions with him for any future medical malpractice liability that might arise. Again, I could make the argument that androgens are protective here, and certainly not causal in elevated ferritin.
Agreed 💯

Remember doctors work for you. Too many get intimidated by them @Fleezy so find a good male doctor who you can discuss this stuff with and with those labs you can get to a specialist without a referral. Just send them to who you call and be persistent.

Not sure where you’re located, but I am lucky to have Emory here in Atlanta which is a research hospital and has specialist who’s focus is sports and athletes.

Just be persistent and agree with what’s been said - the androgens will help in this case. Not abusing them but reasonably as you are.

I am writing my (dickhead) doctor now

Will report back with his response

FYI: He's going to fucking hate it if you tell him you're basing anything you say on internet advice. Don't threaten him with a medical malpractice suit LOL.

I'm keeping that.

Good Sir,

After convening with my auxiliary medical counsel, I would like to inform you, that discussions were had, proceedings were made, and a conclusion arrived at:

That you are a fucking dickhead.

Referral, now, you POS.

You hitherto, shall be hearing, from my aforementioned attorney.

Good day sir, and keep your ear to the grindstone.

Respectfully,
Fleezy

Also, as @bbxtreme mentioned, curcumin is an effective iron chelator, but it will serve to mask ferritin elevations and might delay necessary treatment if you rely on them now. Since your ferritin is not so substantially elevated that phlebotomy is absolutely necessary at present, or indeed as elevated as it will become in the case of hemachromatosis, I personally would not recommend any sort of supplement of this type. I could tell you of one that we commonly use that chelates iron with clinical significance at appropriate dosing, but I won't tell you this information because I believe that it will delay necessary treatment.

I agree. I don’t want guys chasing symptoms to bury the root cause of something. That’s why I try not to throw too much out there. Short term solutions don’t fix long term problems.

Get to the root of it for sure!

Best movie ever BTW;)

Let me tell ya Fleezy, my boy here Type-IIx is wicked smart!
I'd take his advice and run with it.

"Your risk for these conditions is predicated on your ongoing use. I will refer you to our addiction group and when use of the steroid is discontinued for 1-2 months we can recheck the levels and then consider hematology referral if the levels persist."

holy shit lmao

the absolute nerve on this guy.

im not even mad, just awestruck

Really looking forward to @Type-IIx ’s thoughts on the above lol

Are there any other conditions that can cause elevated ferritin besides obesity, alcoholism, acute infection and illness?

It’s a disappointing thing to be stonewalled by my physician like this

Where did you find this guy? This goes beyond the medical oath and he had no clinical reason to insert his personal bias with a response like that. You need to get away from this guy.

Pretty wild

I should write back:

‘Thank you for responding to my message so quickly. However, my request was for a referral to a hematologist, not an addiction group.

I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.

Speak soon.’

Being dismissive of his dismissal

The uno reverse card

Folks on Reddit in the hemochromatosis sub are saying it’s unlikely to be this condition due to my elevated TIBC but nevertheless warrants further investigation.

I’m not sure what to believe at this point.

It’s a damn shame my “doctor” is more concerned about me being a drug addict than alleviating my health concerns

I'd look into NAFLD before worrying about hemochromatosis.

Numbers are fine literally, could get like this from a cold. Will handle itself in most cases
