Instead of spending millions of dollars on Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds and losing countless men and women in the Middle East, this is the type of cause we should be spending money on and trying to help.

I still believe we should help our people out FIRST and foremost, but this would come second in my book.

I'm glad some one else feels the way i do. last i new baseball was not owned buy or government its privet and a god dam game. what gives congress the write to spend our tax dollars on such foolishness. maybe they should start investigating them for miss use of our money

Damn right. Our priorities are really skewed. Brittany Spears gets more attention. I don't get it. As far as the genocide in Africa, I hate to say it but I think it doesn't get much attention because there is nothing in it for us (oil mostly) and yet we stand by and let this happen. What does that say loud and clear about us? Its depressing that we allow this to happen at all, much less to CHILDREN.

too bad giving money or aid to most countries in africa is akin to using 100's for firewood. There is so much corruption in the gov etc that most of the aid never gets to the people. I am all for helping people but hate to see money thrown around with little impact.

man you are so right there, IF the money ever does make it to Africa the corrupt African goverment will just take the money for themselves to buy guns and ammo, Africa is in a sad state right now.

Well... I understand where you're coming from and I agree that our governments waste a lot of money on a lot of bs, but there's not much we can do to help out Africa.

YOu guys seen Blood Diamond ??? I hadto turn it off half way.. It was such a jolt of reality... One of the main reasons for the plight of Africa is the corruption and money not going where it is needed. Know of one story where an entire village in NIgeria got englufed in an oil pool that caught on fire..

So much suffering the world, doing humanitarian work is something I intend to do big time but if you cant do it on a long term basis now, maybe start with your own family or community.... And it doesnt have to be human beings.. You can help the environment or animals who need our help more than ever.. Just my humble opinion..

Right now, my family and I took in a puppy who got hit by a car and broke her hind leg. She had injuires and swear she was never gonna live the first few days... She had two surgeries and had the leg amputated at a phenomenal cost. .... On Christmas eve, she finally came home and was walking and running on 3 legs... It was so amazing. She is a part of the family now... She couldnt be a happier and more spritely critter!!

Now, I dont live in the US, just yet though but I travel fairly often and I see the suffering as well there. One thing I detest are the celebs and this whole celebrity pop culture. It makes me sick to see what MTV ans the rest of the trash tv has come too.. Everyone wants a few minutes of air time to get rich and famous over nite... Britney and Paris.. What have they done? BEsides being a total nuisance and the worse influence for young girls these days, what do they do? Just my 2 cents..

This is really what life is about IMO. Following the golden rule. You're never really giving until you're giving with zero thought of what's in return for you. I am in the people business and I assist in improving quality of life for many of my clients and most are life changing, and I don't feel bad about getting paid to do so, but it's just not the same. I was very close to taking the plunge into mission work a few years back, but it just didn't end up being the right path at that time in my life. My better half and I plan to do this at some point in our lives. The hard part is remembering to give on a daily basis even if it's not solving world peace or curing world hunger, just try to make the lives around you better for all.
