Ok, this thread is for anyone who wants to lay out some nutrition and training myths in order to educate.

Think of it as a list of Nitrition and Exercise myths for someone someone who is new to the BB world.

The ground rules:

First: state the myth
Second: Debunk the myth (back up your opinions)

-put down any myths that a person new to BB and fitness world would need to know
-no fighting, just debating
-debunk another persons myth if you want
-opinions should be backed by a good source, or amazingly great logic

Keep it simple enough for most to understand

The Muscle Bound Baseball Player Myth.

If you are a good baseball player you will ruin yourself by lifting weights. Getting to "muscle bound" and tight you won't be able to swing the bat or throw the ball. When I was a youngster this was still widely believed and taught in certain circles.

Complex carbs get you ripped

Myth:
You must eat slow digesting (aka complex carbs) to keep insulin spike down so you can get ripped.

Truth:
Did a whole diet w/ fruit as my only carb source and was shredded (thanks Phil);)

i could go on and on...
basically, from my experience all the magazines are wrong. but don't bother telling anyone they think musclemag is gospel:rolleyes: -JS

Red Meat is bad for your health.
I often hear people saying that they do not eat red meat.

It is true that some studies have linked red meat with increased risk of heart disease, partly due to the saturated fat content. It is a nutrition myth, however, that red meat is altogether bad for your health.

Red meat is:
-High in zinc, which is important for a healthy immune system.
-Contains more iron than most foods, and it is more easily used by the body than iron from other sources
-Also a good source of other vitamins and minerals, including phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, selenium and b vitamins.
-Excellent source of complete proteins
A high-protein diet based on lean red meat has been shown to help weight loss

keep sodium levels low

big mistake sodium controls the sodium/potassium pump which controls the entry of water, minerals, carbs, and other molecules into the muscle cells. without sodium your muscles will have a very difficult time absorbing nutrients into the muscle cells, preventing you from making optimum gains. don't limit sodium intake unless you have a medical condition! :D
