I heard this on the news last night, so are the health care workers going to be ordered to follow those precautions? Probably not...

This was just a topic on Heavy Muscle Radio...and I agree with their view (Dave Palumbo and John Romano) on how people are going crazy about vaccines nowadays.

When they created the cure for polio, did people freak out and question it? Seriously, people nowadays would not get a polio shot if it came out, and then they would die from getting polio.

The FDA does not have lenient standards at all for things like this.

the flu vaccine is far different than the cure for polio, since the cure is proven to work, and the vaccine is taking a huge risk imo. now with everybody panicking to get this stupid vaccine were going to have an enormous amount of people walking around with the virus now in them and a weakened immune system.

I really hate to keep putting my opinion out there since it's dead-set against the OP's - but when you just sit there and actually think about it, how can everyone not see the common sense behind it? These are health-care workers who are dealing with people, some sick with weakened immunity.. How many of those employees are there in this country - a million maybe? Well if just a very small % of them gets swine/avian/reg flu, and they pass it on to a small % of their patients, this causes a chain reaction where the patients infect a small % of their family, friends, coworkers, even strangers.. And if there is a vaccine that is factually able to minimize this, what is the point of just letting it happen? The risk of passing on the WEAKENED version of the virus after vaccination is absolutely less than if you you had the full blown virus, so that warning just doesn't realistically apply..

It's not even about the vaccination with the people against it, they're just bitching about a violation of their rights, which doesn't apply here, sorry.. You are a health care employee, and if you caught the virus you could personally cause a chain reaction infecting MANY more people.. You're entitled to do that cuz of your rights? Naa, unless there's a totally legitimate possibility of harm to you from the vaccine, you should definitely get it..

Some of you are missing the point here. The flu-mist is live virus administered nasally. To give this to health care workers is incredibly short-sighted and just plain stupid. It's the vaccine that's going to infect the immunosupressed patients. The people who recieve flu-mist will shed live virus for 21 days or so. Every time a vaccinated health care worker comes in contact with an immunosupressed patient they are exposing them to H1N1 just by exhaling. Health care workers should be given injections only with the attenuated inactive virus. It's not about rights...it's about the stupidity of giving the wrong vaccine to the very people who are caring for you!!

If a small percentage of shopkeepers get swine flu they'll pass it onto all their customers too. So will bus/taxi drivers, receptionists and your local baker. Some of their customers might not be in the best of health either. Maybe we should enforce mandatory vaccination upon all these people too huh?

Bottom line: I know what the flu will do to me and I can deal with that. I don't know what the vaccine might do, so I won't take it.

we are getting a little offtopic...but i have a medical background too. I take the vaccines when they come. there is a bit too much anti-vaccine hype. as for decisions and rights and your responsibilities as health care workers... hmm... i am just going to lift some weights and stop thinking!

yes op...i see your point..it kind of got hijacked into rights isssue...he is simply saying by the precautions written on the vaccine mist, it doesnt make sense to force them to do that iinstead of the shot....

for those against the shot...flu shots have been around for ages and this one is made and tested just like the rest...i personally never got one til i had young kids and then it wasnt about me anymore its about them...which is case for health care workers...you think i wanna take my newborn to a dr who starts touching her face ears nose and not have been vaccinated??? f that!! ha
