O/T I need help finding new career....

I need something with better hours. Also Im thinking along the lines a pharmacist. I just dont know. I have been in medicine now for about 6 years. I like it but my hours are horrible. Plus I would like a little more coin. Any help or ideas are appreciated. You guys always seem to help me. I truly appreciate everyone on here. Thanks.

There's a BIG, HUGE demand for pharmacists now (I'm sure you know that). And - they seem to have banker's hours or better.

Yeah I think that a pharmacist would be pretty good.....

Good hours and not "on call" all the time. Also the money is good. This would allow me to some things in my life like actually train when Im not dead ass tired. I just hope Im not too old to start my prepharm courses. It will be a long road ahead of me this I know. Im 26 years old. I guess it will take forever but thats the beauty this career is something I could do well in to my old age. Thanks.

To be honest...

I love the learning about pharmaceuticals. How they act. I excelled in chemistry. Also tutored Advanced bioligy in college. Just have to take a stats class and calc. Im ok in math based classes but it has been a while. I guess if I had to say what I truly loved it would be BB but that dont pay the bills nor is it "legal" the way I do it. I even bounced the idea of being a pharmaceutical rep. The only prob I see is the pay is prob less than what I make now.

Whoaaaaa!!!!!!!! Dude if you get a pharm rep job take that shit in a heart beat my friend. One of my friends who is a girl, they say woman are supposed to be worse at sales jobs....but I dont buy that, made 90k her first year!!!!! She had a BS in biology and made a shit load. She ended up and still is working for Merc and loves it. She travels a ton but the money is awesome.

Being a pharmacist is a great career and there is a big demand and decent money, but remember if you are getting your RPh, then you are not going to work banker's hours. Most pharmacists out of school end up at the big chains and get the crap hours. Try Wlagreens 24 Hour pharmacies. Do you think the guys that have been there for awhile work the night shift? Nope, its the new guy.

If you go on to get your PharmD. then you might get a hospital based position (less money) or have a chance at management later on on the retail side.

If you can sell and like it, go for pharmaceutical sales. I am an Area Sales Manager for a large pharma company and every one of my reps makes more than just about any pharmacist I can think of. In fact, a few of my reps make more than many primary care physicians.

Hey Snarf....

THe question is how do you get in to being a pharm rep??? I see them all the time. They tell me "its who ya knoow". Im wondering how would I go to looking in to this??? I guess I dont want to be in the hospital anymore (very depressing). So if I did get my RPH I would definately go to a chain. Also all the Pharmacys around here close at 10pm. Thanks.

maybe try something your new to. i just got a new job i knew nothing about 2 mnonths ago and now i might be an ass. mgr. soon. i never thought ov doing this but it has tiurned inot something i like. think of what you like to do in your spare time and think of things thatrelate to it, then maybe tackle that angle. the best way to get a good job is to network with people you know. write down on paper all the people you know. then call them, ask if they kjnow of anyone needing some help and attack that angle. it worked for me !!!

It is very hard tobreak into pharmaceutical sales. I get hundreds of resumes all the time. Basically, the best method is to get some solid outside sales experience selling something. Doesn't really matter what. Get that experience and establish a strong track record. Then go around to your local pharmacies and use your hospital contacts and gather up as many pharmaceutical rep business cards as you can. Also, ask at your doctors office and if you see a rep, ask for their card. Then start contacting these folks to see if they have any vacancies. Try to get on with one of the larger companies and get some good experience and training with them in their primary care sales force. Then in about 3 years look for a good specialty sales position - that is where the money is. I have 11 reps who work for me and they all made over $100k last year, the top this year will make about $135-$145k.
