O/T . Looking for advice

Hey this is way OT so I apologize, but this is a great place to get answers from people who I can trust.

Anyways, I am getting ready to sell something off craigslist and the dude is wanting to send me a money order. I am always very skeptical dealing over the internet with crap and I have heard they could send a fake money order then once the bank realizes its fake they come back to you looking for the money.

does anyone know if this is true and if so, is there a time period I could wait until the money order has for sure cleared where I wont have to worry about it coming back on me.

If he has the cash for a money order, have him go get a cashier's check instead.

Shoot Juiceman your allowed to post stuff like this my friend.
Seems like someone a while back had something like that happen...the bank cleared it and then come to find out a few days later when it didnt realy clear
it came back on them.

Deffinatley be carefull in how you do it.

Money orders are fine and safe to use. As long as when you receive it and take it to the bank post office or whatever place you take to redeem it you have them examine it carefully to make sure it is indeed a legit money order.

Could be a scm, most of these scams originate in Nigeria. I would tell the person you'll have to wait 2 weeks or so to make sure the money order is legit. A guy that works for me had it happen to him, his bank didn't contact him for almost 2 weeks to tell him it was fake. I don't think anyone at the bank is trained enough to know if it is actually a fake or not. They probably don't know until they try to collect payment on the money order. I could be wrong, but either way I would be very careful. Tell them to mail you cash, that's all you'll accept
