CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte teenager has died after being shocked with a Taser during a confrontation with police at the grocery store where he worked.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said 17-year-old Darryl Wayne died Thursday. An autopsy is pending.

The Charlotte Observer reported Friday that officers responded to a call at a Food Lion and saw Turner throwing something at a store manager.

Police said Turner appeared agitated, refused their commands and advanced toward an officer before the Taser was used.

Turner's mother, Tammy Fontenot, said her son told her earlier in the day that he had stolen Hot Pockets from the store and feared disciplinary action. Fontenot said she told him to go back to the store to face what happened

cops are above the law, they have no accountability and will cover up the grossest abuses by their fellow officers.

Tasers are not "non lethal" as many people think. The class of weapons are called "LESS THAN lethal," because they can and do kill people. The taser was designed to be used IN LIEU of deadly force. Meaning that an officer should only draw his taser in an instance where he would otherwise be drawing his firearm to use it. It was never meant to save the life of police officers, but rather to reduce the incidence of them killing suspects who were armed with knives or other weapons but the officers only recourse was to shoot them with a firearm. Every instance where an officer uses a taser where his life is not being threatened, is a MISUSE of the devices original intended purpose.

size has nothing to do with the effectiveness of a tazer, i have seen news reports with 15 people holding hands and it drops them all.

Yes tasers kill people as well as any other device , I have seen men come close to dieing from pepper spray after fighting with a cop and he finaly used the pepper spray and the man was gassed , to may deep breaths and he choked out.

so if the cop when hands on with the kid and brawled him to the floor and broke his neck would that make it better? fuck no it would be 1000% worse , if he smacked the kid in the arm with a baton and broke his arm cutting his brachial artery and died , then what?

The least amount of personal contact an officer has with the suspect the better , if the cops show up FOLLOW THE FUCKIN ORDERS

The bigger you are the more of an impact the taser will have on you. Its the smaller skinny guys that that dont carry much body mass can resist it more. In this case here it probably wasnt properly deployed.

i've been hand tasered a few times. it takes a couple seconds to actually drop someone with it. my buddy has been shot with a taser gun by a cop and he pulled the darts out before they even shocked him and ran off

When you hit somene on the arm with the baton your supposed to hit the arm just hard enough to get the situation under control, but these cops like to swing it like Barry Bonds would swing the bat. Getting physical and wrestling suspects to the ground is part of the job. Tasering because you don't want to be bothered getting your uniform dirty is just plain abusive especially when the risk of death from tasers is as high as it is. 200 taser related deaths over the last few years is uncalled for.

Whats gonna be sweet is when those cops lose their job and become broke from the lawsuit that will come of this. The fact that the kid is 17 is really gonna hurt them. Most cops i've met have a major attitude problem and have severe insecurities. Im not saying all do, some are great men/women, but the majorty i've encountered through business,etc.. are the complete opposite of what a cop should be. Most people who get abused by them are usually poor and dont have good acess to lawyers, but i'll tell you what, if a cop even layed a hand on me, you would see an article in the paper about how he was fired and sued.
