What do you guys usually leave?

I use to always here 10-15% of the Bill.....
Recently I went to a Little Itillan place here and at the bottom
the douchbag waiter has circled real Big that its 15-25%...even went as far
as to break it down in numbers for me

And where have all the waitresses gone... seems 8 outa 10 times
Ill have waiter Vs a waitress.... I find myself having a harder time tipping a grown man serving then I would say a younger female.....Is that wrong
And Have I bean a cheapskate all this time leaving 10-15% and not more?
Shit 25% seems a bit high imo

Work is work... I treat male/female all the same.

20%

I usually leave 20% even if the service was not that good. The waiter or waitress might have had a bad day, (death in the family, fight with spouse, didn't feel well etc.) They don't pay those guys shit and they must rely on tips to make a livable wage. So I'm a softie, somebody has to be.

I love you man!

15-25%. From bad to real good.
Buffet 0-10%.

15-25% auch

These people don't make shit. It's hard to deal with people and their food. Screaming kids, complaints all day, spilled food and drinks, coming home smelling like food and grease.
Let's say my wife and I go to Friday's for a burger 'cuz I'm cheap. The bill is 20 bucks and the waiter/waitress kept the iced tea coming the whole time. Decent service for a maybe a little longer than a half hour. 10% would only be 2 bucks. That's fucking stingy.

standard

bad 10% -abg 20-25% bad ass 25% +

i now alot of people in the industry so i go by these rules :D

leap

Unless the service is outstanding, I don't leave a tip. Why tip? To reward crappy service? If the service/food is crappy I usually don't pay at all.
If the waiters scream that they don't get paid enough, well get another f*ckin job and stop bitching! It's not my responsability to keep you alive!

Oh yeahhhhh I hear ya. I think we both remember back when Congress passed a law to tax their gratuity by 8%. So they get taxed on the wage and if you're in the service industry.. another 8%. gawwwd that was a cheap shot. Makes me wonder if the rich and powerful was worried that the waiters/waitress's would catch up to them?

I think it started with a mess that Congress and rich people were deducting tips on taxes... so they shiftd burden on the service industry to make up the loss.

I agree with BigA to an extent. if its a kid trying to get thru school and also bistin their ass to pay bills and stuff i always tip at least 20% and usually more. If its some middle aged person who just never got their shit together for whatever reason i usually tip less. and when i go out to eat at waffle house or somewhere after working at the club i tip 20% plus just cause i figure they dont get much on that shift.

Raj,
I would of been outraged at the waiter circling the amount of tip and even worse braking it down for me? that fucker would got an insult tip like 5% I mostly go 15 and if the service is really good then 20 , buffet where they just bring your drinks justa few bucks.

Same here. I'm mad just reading that he did that! I would be thinking who the heck do you think you are telling ME what I should leave YOU? If they did a good job I TRY to leave at least 15-20%. Like Leap, outstanding service, even more. :D If JT is feeling stingy, I wait until he leaves the table and leave more. :p

Wow! I bet the waitresses fight over your table :)
Unless the service is outstanding you don't tip. What if the service is just good. They bring you your food, they're friendly, the food was good and you were happy. Would that be outstanding enough to tip? If tipping was not customary and the wait staff was paid say $12 an hour instead of the $2-3 they are usually paid by their employers, your meal would cost a bit more wouldn't it? So not tipping to me is the same as stealing from someone. Just my opinion, but it's taking something from someone (their service) and not giving them anything in return.

well i consider myself a pretty decent tipper, not that i have tons of money laying around, etc. but i have always gave decent tips, obviously its all dependent upon my service. i cant really say i would leave a really bad tip if the food wasnt good because thats not really the waiters fault. now if the food was cold, took forever, and the waiter wasnt all that friendly, she would probably get 2 bucks.

last night i went out for dinner had a bottle of wine and two small appetizers, totaly was 46$, i think i left 9$ for a tip. thats 19%, maybe thats why i dont have any money.. haha

later,

i couldnt help but think of the movie resevoir dogs when i read this.

so rajjin, what did you leave my man?

Many of my jobs in school were waiting tables bussing them whatever. Been there done that and it HURTS not to get a dime after busting your ass for someone. But to each their own if they don't wanna tip that's their choice me it's 15% minimum no matta what. 25-30%% if service is exceptional.
If the food is bad or the service really slow.....I'll contact the mgr. Most of the time the food will not have to be paid for...and I'll still leave a tip. But that's not often that it happens nor do I try to get out of a bill.

wow

Some of you guys have some f'd up points of view on how or when to tip. I currently work as a waiter part time, Im actually a realtor. I had a stint where business wasnt going well so I had to get a part time job. Serving sucks! If you cant afford to tip 15-20% dont go out to eat, go to subway or mcdonalds. I bust my ass, I keep drinks full try to keep people happy and its tough because times I bust my ass for a table and they leave me shit... well the things I want to do  I would rather be bartending but I havent had that break...

Which brings me to the next point. Everyone here tips the bartender on every drink, thats like 30-40% maybe more. He dosent give you the same service as a waiter. He is there for a second for that one drink, as a server you are there for the entire course.

Im 25 yo and for those of you who think Im too old to be doing it, its a job it helps pay the bills. I have a college education, business has picked up for me in real estate again, and I hope to not be serving for much longer.

Just had to offer my .02

Don't be stingy in Los Angeles

I'm w/ MassiveG on this- don't confuse bad service and bad food. If the food is not cooked right or what was expected, don't take it out on the server. Talk to manager; don't expect a "comp" meal but if they do, still tip on what it would have cost.

And I always will round up when figuring tip (20% min here in L.A. especially if you frequent the place). And buy the Sushi chef(s) a beer or sake right away as it will go a long way to service/quality.

Of course, if you're a "starving student" you probably cannot be as generous, but you also shouldn't go to the places where the bill will be $100+ for 2 and then nickle-and-dime on tips.

Don't forget the valets too- especially if you have a nice car and want to keep it that way- I tip them BEFORE I give them the keys.

I know La-La Land is different than most of U.S., so my $.02 may not apply in your area.
