yes i was emailed by our reps guy, and its a big positive for ON/ABB, more international exposure amoung other things, trust me it will be a huge plus for the company :) $$$$$$$ :)

Good to hear b-boy!

I was looking at the other company and it looked like a good thing for ON and it's consumers. I don't think it will effect their products (the price/quality ratio), or at least I hope not.

AWN whats your thoughts? Im very shocked at this....as an insider to the industry....I really thought Optimum was worth at least 600 million....they controlled the market.

(took a second look at article....that is a very low operating profit for what I thought they were doing though)

Speaking of the supp industry, I'd be curious to know which brand currently is the market leader in terms of sales. MuscleTech? Twinlab? Prolab? EAS?

Anyone aware of the precise figures and placings?

ON was already buying their whey from Glanbia. Now it should be actually cheaper since Glanbia suppliers are all over the place - less money spent on transporting it.

Are you employed our sponsored by them? They make one of the best economical low carb whey's out there, always recommend ON whey and Isopure to clients.

yes i am sponsored by ON/ABB, chris250, and row to grow (joe lyons).

From what we were told in the email, as Brad mentioned, this is a good thing for the company. What kind of changes will be seen by everyone...increased advertising and more of an international presence.

As far as the products are concerned, the prices may go down. The company now is the size of GNC, but ON/ABB still makes their own products and that will not change. They still plan to run business as usual.

From what we were told, there are only positive changes coming from this deal. Hopefully Brad, Chris, and I will be able to benefit from the deal as well;)

Thats good to hear. I hope they keep you guys on and continue to get you exposure and more.

BTW Joe, congrats on the ad with you and your wife. Saw it on MM......awesome.

$315mil for a $32mil yearly profit company is extraordinay money. But, as you would know too from their turnover, their real profit would be MUCh higher than $32mil, but once all the tax schemes are in place, it drops to the public value.

it is funny to see how much these companies...and then sad to see them pay their athletes SO LITTLE!!!

2.2 BILLION in revenues and then just bought out a company for 315 million...but they do not take care of their athletes...well they do to a point, but 30 to 60 thousand a year isn't squat compared to what they are pulling in.

unreal

streakhelmet- I AGREE 315 million dollars and our mr. olympia wins a lousy 120,000 (whatever it is)????!!!! and that just one company!! a billion dollar industry and our pro athletes get dicked right and left

That's a whole other thread but isn't the statistic Ronnie made in a year what tiger woods makes in a week.

I thought so too. Good buy. Memory serves correct EAS went for over 400+ mil USD when it was sold yrs back.

I thought it sold for $1bil even. That's what Bill Phillips said. Although he could have been bullshitting.

Bump for a response! :)

I think he got a couple hundred million...pretty good for a kid that started it from roid money-meaning the money he made writing those anabolic references guides-but he was at the right place at the right time with great marketing with products like creatine and MRP's the HMB scam etc.....

I laughed my ass of when he went "all natural" with the mag-someone that knew him well told me he and his brother took a private plane down to Mex every other week to get shots of sustanon and deca (especially for that Body of Life vid) as Phillips was insanely scared and paranoid about getting busted and losing everything as the DEA wasn't very fond of his magazine and books even back in the early 1990's.

I just hope the quality of the products does not go down like what has happened with several companies like EAS and Met-Rx when they were sold.

1999 - North Castle Partners buys EAS for $160 million, with Bill Phillips retaining about a third of the company. It begins adding mass-market products such as Pirhana energy drinks and AdvantEdge nutrition bars to the line. While Phillips limited the distribution of EAS products to gyms and health-food stores, new CEO David Lumley sells the line to discount retail chains and convenience stores and uses supermodel Cindy Crawford and Denver Bronco Shannon Sharpe in company ads. Sales climb to $251 million by 2001.

January 2003 - EAS stops selling products that contain ephedra, an herbal stimulant that some experts link to heart attacks and strokes, several months before the FDA bans the substance.

July 2003 - EAS ousts Lumley. Management says they fear he has steered too far away from EAS' traditional customer base of athletes and bodybuilders. He is replaced by chief operating officer Monty Sharma.

2004 - North Castle Partners buys Bill Phillips' portion of the company.

*****(im going to guess this was for 80-120 million as the worth of the company increased over time--so im going to speculate that he made 280 million total from its sale)

2004 - Abbott Laboratories buys EAS for $320 million. Company sales are predicted to be $340 million for 2004.
