I don't find my job fulfilling.I have a social work degree and a therapeutic recreation undergrad. I am a child protective services social worker. I don't really work with the children to much on my cases. I spend all my time working with parents in the family identifying needs and trying to make sure they do what there suppose to be doing. Such as providing substance abuse treatment, mental health service, domestic violence services, parenting classes etc etc,. Monitoring there progress, writing treatment plans and petition the Courts if they do not comply. I also find services for children who require them such as extended day programs, mental health services etc etc. You name it. Residential facilities for children with behavioral issues that require a higher level of care etc.
I did vocational rehabilitation before with disabled adults for non profit and it did not pay much. I took this job been at it for 4yrs, it paid well and had excellent benefits and a pension. I also did therapeutic recreation in the past, in a nursing home. If I did that I would rather work with children in state facility. Geriatrics is not really a population group I'm interested in.
I want to pursue OT because I would like a good paying job doing Voc/rehab type work in a school or hospital etc.I have thought about PT before, but like more of the Voc/Rehab aspects. I'm 30 so I figure if I/m going to change its a good time now before my wife and I start having children.
