Anyone ever take any classes or instruction in Russian Martial Arts or combat system "Systema"?
I would take up wrestling and or boxing before I ever thought about systema, if your opponent will stand still and let you try pressure point applications on you then your good, but in a real life brawl...
I'm talking about the military combat style of systema, which combat sombo would fall under, but I'm looking for a more advanced combat form of systema. You guys are talking to me like I'm a beginner. I wrestled for 8 years, and took other martial arts. I'm particularly looking for comments on experienced persons in the style of russian combat martial arts to comment.
Not definitions or what I i should take or thoughts on what others think is best or better. SORRY OF THIS SOUNDS ABRASIVE...
Hi Dragon,
Have trained with Vladimir Vasiliev on a number of occasions, what would you like to know?
Krav Maga is a more effecient and realistic skill to learn
I went to a few classes years ago, liked it, but today its like the L.A. fitness of self defense arts. Places popping up that appear to be more of a fad. I can't find a place that teaches Krav Maga in my area that's cheap either. They want $200 a month for a 3 days a week and extra weapons defense training they want your to pay for small private group sessions.
I want the straight forward, no bullshit, most grimy version...
Y
"Eskrima" is also a great style to look into , though it is focused on a weapon , like a knife or short staff , it is very very effecient and effective (i personaly think everybody needs to carry a good knife anyway)
How similar is it to Krav Maga. Also in regards to similarity, which one offers better disarming weapons defense tactics.
Dragon,
Systema is in my mind comletely different to Krav Maga, Systema teaches applications for all sorts of scenario's from hand to hand combat, defense against a knife, using a knife, fighting in confined spaces, cars, you name it. Why not check out some of the dvds that are available, or email Vladimir as he is a really easy going nice guy that would be more than happy to answer your questions.
I've trained with a quite a few different SF around the world and to be honest when it comes to the Martial Art side of it i'd say the Russians win hands down.
