Pec Tear..

I have a slight deformation in my left pec and can feel a split in the muscle fiber but the area does not hurt at all. Sometimes I feel a pulling and a sensation of pins and needles in the area but unless I am doing barbell bench presses I have no pain at all. Not even when I do flat or incline dumbbell presses with 100+. Is it possible to have a tear and have only a few exercises aggravate the area while others do not?

BTW…I am going to see a doctor about this next week. Just wanted to know what to expect.

Thanks!
Brandon

Is the area red and warm to the touch or bruised?

No..not at all…that’s what I don’t understand…I can feel a separation in the muscle, yet no pain unless I do barbell bench.

One time I was spotting a friend. As I helped him with the lift I had an extreme sharp pain in my back, and I heard a noise which sounded exactly like paper tearing. It took a second and then the pain set in, it really hurt.

I did not go to a doctor, but the next day there was still no swelling, bruising, pain ..nothing.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, go to your doctor and have it checked, but dont assume the worst.

I tore my pec a few years ago where the tendon attaches to the muscle. It was a complete tear and even after surgery there is some deformation of the area. You culd have partially torn it, it only hurts when you actually tear it.....by the following day, the pain was gone.

Go see the doc and good luck.

Donno man..hopefully its not that serious! Best of luck at the doc's!

I done the same thing about 5 weeks ago but mine swoll up like a balloon and was bruised. Hematoma all over injured area and part of biceps, I can only see it now when doing front double biceps pose. I have to find a new physio but am sure once I get some friction work done it will make a 100% recovery in strength and appearance. My chest is getting stronger each week and that is with no physio.

stay away from the barbell bench. there are other exercises that are just as good. hammer strength; inclines ; etc. you can have a partial tear in the muscle (seperation) with out any pain has this is in the muscle itself. look at this has a lucky warning. when you go see the doc. and have xrays or really a m.r.i. you will be able to see what damaged is done. if you keep pounding the muscle it will then turn into a tear. and maybe a complete seperation from the bone. then you will feel the worst pain you can imagine. i was stupid and ignored this sign. i and i paid for it.

I'm guessing that it might be a strain. I try to avoid any exercises that cause any pain.

Doc said I do have a slight tear in my pec, but that it’s an old tear. I’m guessing that I did it in 2004 on inclines. Anyway he said that the pain I do feel when benching is from scar tissue and that if I am doing any chest exercise that cause me pain to stop immediately. So no more benching.

Just wanted to give you an update and to thank you for your help with this.

Peace,
Brandon

Yeah, that a bummer, bud. I have a full-thickness supraspinatus tear, and shoulder presses/bench presses/incline presses really aggravate it. I put a couple of 45-lb plates on my back and do push-ups to failure now, as they don't hurt, and are somewhat similar to the bench pressing action.

DUde I had a parial tear a couple years back that only hurt doing declines or weighted dips. Took a good year to go away though
