I just watched this from the other thread and have so many thoughts.
But the first one- “hire slow and fire fast”. It’s a rule to live by in business. Same with coaches and athletes.
I have worked with many great coaches, but I knew when to pull the plug. Did it make them a bad coach? No. They had their style and formula.
In looking back I should have known their formula and style prior to working with them.
But more importantly in all of this- a coach is just that, a coach. You don’t see Aaron Rodgers run on the field and run the play he was told by the coach if he sees a shift in the defense. He adapts and executes and then discusses with the coach after the play.
It’s our job to know our body, to know when to execute, when to push back and how to progress in this sport. Too many guys are under communicating and blindly trusting the process. We live in our body 24/7 and expect a coach to read our mind and know how we feel in WhatsApp 1-2X a week… it’s a yin and yang dynamic. Only way it works.
With all that said, I don’t know Matt. What I do know is that the fake gear crap is getting old. No coach OR athlete should be using that excuse.
I think it’s great he shared his experience as I think there needs to be more balance and accountability on both sides.
Just my opinion.
You missed the bold word, blindly.Ok then why in every thread when someone mentions they have a coach we say to not sway from your coaches plan.
Trust the process ..so on and so forth?
You missed the bold word, blindly.
It is a fine line. But it’s a clear one when you know your body and communicate.Still a fine line
It is a fine line. But it’s a clear one when you know your body and communicate.
Example- we recently changed up my cycle and AJ suggested I use a compound that gives me PIP. Did I blindly just do it? No, I reminded him and we moved forward without days of limping. lol
In this case here- When he was 320 and Matt wanted him to push up to 330 and eat burgers on all training days. He knew it was the wrong thing to do for his body, but he blindly trusted the process. I have been there and you know when you can’t eat up anymore or shouldn’t. But if that’s not properly communicated to the coach then you both end up in a bad spot.
I get several messages on here from guys under good coaches who are having issues that I help in DM’s. 9/10 of them haven’t even told their coach about the issue because they’re afraid or “blindly” trusting the process.
To me that’s the line and at our level we know where it’s at. A new guy and client under a coach- he’s still learning and doesn’t know his body nor does his coach… different example.
But a top pro losing 20lb of lean tissue over two years… you know. And he owned that which I think is great.
Boom! That’sSolid response
What's the point of having a coach if you can't be open and honest with that person then.

Alot of people are chasing a dream and will do whatever it takes to get close to it

My fault I was on my lunch break at work and didn’t see that the video was posted to the IFBB 2024 thread. I did see Phil chimed in as well. I don’t believe the fake gear shit either.
The thing is, no coach has ever taken someone without elite genetics and changed their trajectory and made them elite. That just doesn't happen.
Even the best coaches don't know anything the rest of us don't know. There are no secrets. From what I can tell, at best, they provide a set of seasoned eyes to guide your conditioning and a motivating voice to keep you going. But not a single one has a magic sauce.

I couldn’t agree more..there’s no “secret protocol” you Just have to know your body. The thing is, no coach has ever taken someone without elite genetics and changed their trajectory and made them elite. That just doesn't happen.
