Regarding the ongoing discussion having to do with tall
bodybuilders, the attached photo is Sergio Oliva with
Larry Gilmore. Larry is taller than Sergio.
And I have a photo of Larry with Arnold and Franco, all
side by each, and Larry is shorter than Arnold, so I
would extrapolate that Sergio is somewhere in the
neighborhood of 5' 10" tall, definitely shorter than six foot.
I also saw Sergio backstage years ago when he was a
guest poser at a local show and he was, in my opinion,
easily shorter than six foot tall. But then again, the addition
of muscular mass does not do you any favors when it
comes to the perception of your height.
Years ago, my cousin accused me of getting shorter.
I had not seen her in a year or so and I had packed on
some size in the meantime, so I probably did in fact,
appear shorter to her. Conversely, slenderness almost
always gives the impression of length and height as do
certain colors and patterns. Ask any woman.
People in general are accustomed to inflating just about
everything that has to do their persona, so it should come
as no surprise that when it comes to any sort of bodily
measurements, they tend to be somewhat, pardon the pun,
inflated.
FYI . . .The photo I posted of Sergio with the Anderson
Brothers; these brothers were monsters, I think in the
neighborhood six and a half feet tall, maybe more, but I'm
not sure. But they were big men that is for sure.
