Interesting study. It would be hard to parse out that eggs are the factor in the deaths. Perhaps guys who eat more eggs typically engage in other unhealthy behaviors. I wonder if the statistics are the same for males in Asia?

Best quote in the article:
"Men who ate the most eggs also were older, fatter, ate more vegetables but less breakfast cereal, and were more likely to drink alcohol, smoke and less likely to exercise — all factors that can affect the risk of heart attack and death."

Funny how "news" like this can make it to MSNBC...

funny...

the thing is, if you research deep enough you can find a "link" wherever...

oh i see that people who ate a lot of carrots at age 8-12 were most likely to become bankrobbers. The risk of becoming a bankrobber is 15% more if you ate more than 3 carrots a day at age 8-12... BLA BLA and BLA...

Study done by Dr. Harold Pointless who thinks that he is on to something and desperatly want to get "cred" in the med world... sorry Harold... it was all as pointless as your surname.

Agreed. It's a bit dissappointing how much time, money and effort goes into the minutiae of research and university PhD programs (of all sorts, not just medicine/health).

Yea, us egg eaters are more likely to be risk takers, and participate in more dangerous activities. Just this morning, I was eating a hard boiled egg, sending a text message on my cell phone, AND DRIVING!

So true!!

For every study now days you can find one that says the opposite. I own a supplement store and we sell Isopure drinks in the cooler.. 40 grams of protein and 55mg of calcium per bottle. A female customer who buys lots of these comes in one day and says she showed the bottle to her DR and he said dont drink these because the calcium content is way too high. I tell her the calcium content of one cup of milk is 300mg so where in the hell is he coming up with this info??

Egg consumption and risk of heart failure in the Physicians' Health Study.
Djoussé L, Gaziano JM.

Division of Aging, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, 1620 Tremont St, Third Floor, Boston MA 02120, USA. [email protected]

BACKGROUND: Reduction in dietary cholesterol is widely recommended for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Although eggs are important sources of dietary cholesterol and other nutrients, little is known about the association between egg consumption and heart failure (HF) risk. METHODS AND RESULTS: In a prospective cohort study of 21 275 participants from the Physicians' Health Study I, we examined the association between egg consumption and the risk of HF. Egg consumption was assessed with the use of a simple abbreviated food questionnaire, and we used Cox regression to estimate relative risks of HF. After an average follow-up of 20.4 years, a total of 1084 new HF cases occurred in this cohort. Although egg consumption up to 6 times per week was not associated with incident HF, egg consumption of > or = 7 per week was associated with an increased risk of HF. Compared with subjects who reported egg consumption of < 1 per week, hazard ratios (95% confidence intervals) for HF were 1.28 (1.02 to 1.61) and 1.64 (1.08 to 2.49) for egg consumption of 1 per day and > or = 2 per day, respectively, after adjustment for age, body mass index, smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, and history of atrial fibrillation, hypertension, valvular heart disease, and hypercholesterolemia. Similar results were obtained for HF without antecedent myocardial infarction. CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that infrequent egg consumption is not associated with the risk of HF. However, egg consumption of > or = 1 per day is related to an increased risk of HF among US male physicians.

I wonder

... if the quality of store-bought eggs is a factor here? Those eggs come from chickens who are confined to a cage, plucked, kept in the dark, and fed a diet of GRAIN, which leads to a poor quality egg. Has anyone ever compared a store bought egg to an egg from a free-range chicken farm? The eggs I get from the store have a flimsy, pale yellow yolk. The eggs I get from my favorite chicken lady have a large robust yolk that is very hard to break. The color of the yolk is a deep reddish-orange, it is very pleasing to the eye and contains a more favorable balance of fats and cholesterol. Conclusion? Happy, healthy chickens make supercharged eggs that are much better for you. Find a chicken lady in your area as soon as possible. Bock bock bugock! :)

eggs are bad for you... once a week is fine

And you base this on what assumption, because someone said they were???

I would say you have no idea what you are talking about.

Yes Edge, I'll see you at the gates my friend...........I eat tons of em!!!
