Hey guys can you help me what I may have or not have? I have a Dr. appointment Thursday. On saturday
I was doing chest, incline DB press, I took 75 lbs and kicked the left one up, then the right one and
when pushing the weights up to do the first rep, I feel and hear a ripping sound, like velcro, I instincively
dropped the weight. No pain, I just can't move my arm up more then 30 degrees nor sideways. I can go high
up as to open a door but thats it. Since Saturday Ive been icingm resting and taking Ibuprofen. Things have
not changed much. No pain except when I try to lift higher then 30 degrees. When my arm is idle no pain.
There is no redness, bump or visual deformity. Doesnt hurt when i poke around. I'm suppose to leave on vacation
in 1 week and am a bit worried. If just need time and rest and things will get better over the days and weeks,
that not too bad. However if it something is torn and surgery in obligatory it fks up my vacation plan Id
prefer cancelling. Do you guys have any idea what it could be or what I can rule out? Btw I can use my other hand to lift my arm up completely, just not by itself.

Thanks

How much swelling is there ?

If it's just a minor pec tear and you don't need surgery a vacation is just what you need 😅

No swelling bro, no pain if I touch. But it’s in delts not pecs. Just can’t move my arm up

I've never experienced something like that. Hopefully nothing major

Sounds like you most likely tore your labrum.

I agree with labrum, but don’t cancel your appointment. Get an MRI done and assess the damage for better or for worse as it’ll tell you how to go forward.

Unless something is fully torn you’ll likely be able to heal with time, modalities and PT.

Torn labrum or infraspinatus. Get an mri asap and get it fixed if it’s completly torn. Sounds exactly like what I did. Cost me 70,000$ I had no insurance. Now I’m looking at getting the other one fixed it’s really starting to fuck w me.

agree with others on the MRI.

No point in trying play a guessing game with the extent of your injury, hoping that ice and rest will be enough for a full recovery. It really depends on how bad of a tear it was if you can rest and recover, need surgical intervention, or perhaps a milder 3rd option.

Do you warmup before you do pressing movements or do you just jump right into your working sets? I'll spend around 10 minutes doing some rotator cuff work and stretching before I even touch a dumbbell on my pressing days, then when it comes time to press I'll start low on the weight to get a good "feel" for things, build the mind-muscle connection, and of course warmup everything more, before jumping into my working sets. Took me a few rotator cuff tears to learn to warmup properly..but eventually I learned

I never had any significant swelling and all three rotators were detached. Didn’t hurt much except if I laid down. I slept in a chair wit my arm hanging from a rafter fur a few weeks till I had it fixed. Iv had a ton of joint reconstructed knees hip, biceps shoulder. None of them ever had any swelling or bruising. So that’s not always an indicator of your injury.

You're basically 1/2 terminator at this point. That doesn't sound fun at all though, geeze

Fleezyz Xtreme and Alz nailed it. Sounds like SLAP tear aka labrum. Does it crackle if you turn it? Hurt if you hold arm out and press down on it with other arm or reach cross body? Get referral to shoulder specialist, MRI, and hopefully PT can strengthen the small muscles to where you can train and avoid surgery. Had one about 10 years ago PT helped forgot I have it. Labrum won't heal but if small enough won't affect you. I'd be very careful how you train chest in future, up the reps. Heavy incline DB press have tweaked mine a few times. Oh press is fine. Won't attempt any form of bench press or flat DB press or deads...as bicep tendon runs right up in there at labrum

I would suspect a rotator cuff tear since you mention you cannot move your arm laterally. I believe like other have said infraspinatus does this movement. If you tore it, the tear can be this way for a while before you cannot successfully have surgery. I would see a doc for peace of mind but you likely would be fine on you vacation but will be injured.
